I am into weight watchers. I lost 45 pounds after my last daughter was born and have every intention of doing it again in a few weeks when my son is born! Kristi is right thought, weight watchers is ment to be a life change not a diet! But honestly I felt soooo good when I did it! I was healthy and had energy and it was awesome since I had a 2yr old and a newborn! Good luck!

I've been researching this, and I'm going to be starting The Fat Flush Plan next week. It's a two-week cleansing period and then it's basically eating sensibly. It was recommended by my doctor and my friend has lost 70 pounds in the last year on it. (She was as addicted to junk food as I am, and she's quite happy with her eating and her health. That gives me some hope!) Just an option: www.annlouise.com. Good luck!

Weight Watchers. But it only works if you work it. I lost 65 lbs. while I was on it, but you have to continue eating healthily, and stay within your points, or you will gain weight. Some people think that you can "diet" until you have lost the weight, then resume their old eating/lifestyle patterns. This is not true. You have to keep it up to keep it off. It really works though, and the weekly meetings are awesome, because they make a big deal out of small victories, and it's nice to be supported by people in the same situation.

Weight Watchers is the only diet that is scientifically proven. If you can stick to it, it is a good program. My husband and I learned a lot from it.

Dr. Mirkin's Diet is also a very effective tool if used right. It is very close the the meditarranean diet and the info is free online. The key to this diet is knowing what whole grains are. Whole grains are literally the whole grain, like brown rice, barley, quinoa, wild rice, millet, etc and not anything processed into flour and made into noodles, bread, etc. Eating whole grain bread and saying it is whole grain is like eating banana bread and saying you ate bananas. The advertisers are fooling us into eating all these cereals, crackers, bread, noodles, etc and saying that we are getting whole grains from them. And when we eat them, we get hungry because our body basically processes it like sugar and turns it into fat. True whole grains have fiber and good carbs to keep us full. That's a key factor to a good successful diet. Nobody likes feeling hungry.

I would start by eating steel cut oatmeal for breakfast. Trader Joe's sells them pre-made but I usually cook a week's worth in a slow cooker and put them in individual containers. I have all sorts of dried fruit, fresh fruit, nuts and seeds ready for toppings. That really fills us up for the morning and you have half a day where you're eating well already and not having to snack to get energy. Instant or even rolled oats don't work as well. I have experienced it personally. Sometimes, I throw in kasha, barley, or other whole grain and healthy things like flax seeds and sesame seeds for variety and extra nutrition.

I don't want to preach so I've enclosed the link below. My husband lost 30 pounds and I only needed to lose that stinking stubborn last 5 pounds after my pregnancy and this helped me do that. Dr. Mirkin has tons of recipes on his websites and a lot of them are delicious! Even my 3 yr old eats them, not because she needs to be on a diet but because it is basically healthy food that our body needs!

Hi Nonya,

My husband and I have been using fooddiary.com to track what we eat and how many calories we have left in a day. He has lost 22 pounds since March. I lost about 30 pounds a few years ago & kept it off.

It's not a system with point counting, just understanding what you're doing.

Good luck.

Absolutely!!!!! Diet is a 4 letter word and diets never work. If you want a lifestyle change check out Transitions. My husband and I are having amazing results. We are change our whole body composition and we have never felt better. I have cleaned our cabinets out and we have started taking bike rides and walks as a family. Anyone can do this you don't have to buy special foods or count calories or take "magic" pills. Email me at ____@____.com and I will send you the link.

P.S After reading the comments below realized that most of them refer to low-glycemic. That is the answer! Transitions is a low glycemic 12 week program.

write down EVERYTHING you put in your mouth. that is the first thing any celeberity has to do with their fancy famous trainers/dietician. They say that the ONLY way to really change eating habits. It is also one of the hardest things to do EVERYTIME.
It will show you a pattern of your habits. It also jump start the brain into skipping the extra 5 m & Ms because you didn't want to write it down. after a while you can see what (quanties & when and even what you were doing at the time.) you are putting in your body and what you are not. you can then naturally change your intake to be more balanced, and speading out the calories thoughout the day.

Personally, i can't do it. i eat like a camel and can't help myself. the only reason i'm not the size of a house is that i gave up many foods (no bread, pasta, sugar..) but it is not really a healthy way to do it. If you need to drop a couple of dress sizes in a couple of weeks, yes, i'd say go for it (eat only protiens and low carbrohydrate vegetables for about a week or so and wear ankle weights in the day to tone the legs.) But a real change of eating habit to a healthy lifestyle comes from recording everything you eat.

go to sparkpeople.com. it's like weight watchers only FREE. I've lost 20 lbs since january, and i'm a very slow loser. you track your food (don't really diet or have to buy special food if you don't want) and track exercise if you do. it's cool.

There is no diet that works. You have to make a lifestyle change to eating clean, healthy food.

If you're not sure how, do some research and then save your money.
Fruits, veggies, whole grains and lean proteins. The occasional splurge is fine and healthy to do, but overall, you have to reign in the sugar, learn about the right way to "use" fat in foods, and moderate your calories.

The South Beach diet was created by a cardiologist trying to come up with something healthy for his hear patients. He tried it and as a side effect, lost weight. Diet used ot mean what we ate, now it seems to mean limiting ourselves. Whatever you decide to do, make it a lifestyle change. If you go back to old habits, the weight will come back too.

Eat more vegetables and fruits. Keep the variety. cut off meat. different dressing. crunchy toppings. If you can, eat salad at night times for a month. do not skip your meals. Eat the fatty food sparingly. if you really get tempted keep twice the amount of fruits or vegetables next to the fatty food and promise yourself you will eat the healthy food right after the unhealthy food. Also start with a workout regimen. Rain or shine even if it is 15 minutes a day do it at the` "same time" every single day. Do not change your workout timings. and good luck.

Hi Nonya,

The only diet that is really healthy and will help you lose weight if you need to (or gain if you need to) is the low glycemic index diet. It is not specifically for weight loss but it helps to balance your weight because it avoids the absorption of simple sugars. Absorbing nutrition is the only way to lose weight!

God bless,

M.

Diets don't work. Eat a clean diet (low fats, low sugar) and cut out the junk (soda, chips, cookies, cakes, candy, etc. ). Don't starve yourself, eat several small meals throughout the day, choosing healthy snacks (fruit, nuts) instead of empty calories. And, most importantly, you need exercise. Our bodies need to be worked out so you can burn calories/fat. Beachbody.com is a great place to start with some awesome workouts to choose from so you can work out in the comfort and privacy of your home. Walking every day is a great way to get in shape and enjoy the wonderful outdoors if all else fails.

Dr. Gimness in Plant City put us on a diabetic diet and it works. I have lost about 30 pounds and so has my husband. It's basically counting carbs and calories and eating several times a day. I don't even exercise like I should and still lose the weight.

I've always been told that eating right and exercising regularly is the best diet out there. This is the diet a friend of mine was on while she was on weight watchers...

Breakfast:
1 slice of whole wheat toast (can have a small amount of butter/jam), 1 small low fat yogurt or some fruit

Lunch:
Turkey sandwich (can have a small amt of mayo or mustard) with some fruit and some juice (make sure it's 100% juice or it's just a sugar filled sports drink)

Dinner:
Boneless, skinless Chicken breast, cooked with some Kosher Salt, black pepper, some garlic, a little all purpose seasoning and Olive oil to keep from drying out (or herbs of your choice)

You can put almost anything you want in place of the suggested food items, just make sure that any meat you buy is trim and low fat ... like ground sirloin instead of ground chuck, it's a leaner meat therefore, it's healthier for you. Try not to buy any beef that is less than 80% lean and 20% fat. You should also buy a kitchen scale to measure out your meat; the average portion size we need of meat is between 4-6 ounces. That doesn't sound like a lot, but it's the truth. In addition to that, make sure that anytime you snack that it's healthy; a piece of fruit, some vegetables, some nuts (if you aren't allergic) and drink plenty of water! It'll help flush the bad stuff out of your system.
In conjunction to this, start taking daily walks. Start at 1/4 of a mile, then work up to a half then up to a whole mile etc. After you've gotten used to walking on a regular basis, change it up; walk 1/4 mile, then run 1/4 mile then walk 1/4 etc. Eventually, you'll lose weight in a healthy way. Remember, you don't want to drop it all at once, that's not a healthy way to do it at all. A good friend of mine lost >150 pounds that way in about two years! Good luck!

I dont think "diets" work. You have to be willing to change you lifestyle habits. You can diet all you want, but when you QUIT dieting you will gain all your weight back. I did the weight watchers and lost 30 lbs.. they teach you how to eat right and portion control.

Good luck
