My husband and I are in the beginning stages of family planning and I wondered if I could get information about costs per week/per month. I'm just looking for a ballpark as to what we can expect to pay in the Western suburbs....
Any suggestions of lower cost child care?

When my son was an infant two years ago, my husband and I were paying $215/week, which increased to $238/week within one year at Adventures in Learning.

I feel the need to be blunt with you. If you cannot afford to stay at home and care for your child, please do not seek out the cheapest child care you can find. You are going to be entrusting a stranger to care for the most precious thing in your life and your search should not be approached through cost only. I do not speak as someone who is against child care as I spent better than 10 years in the early childhood field. Please just think QUALITY not strickly COST. As for the cost of child care just open the phone book and call around to all the places listed in the area-it will give you an idea of weekly cost for day care. God bless.

Infants are more expensive than toddlers or school age children. I was paying $192.00/week for my 5 year old at a Children's World. She's now in a home daycare and I pay $40/day which I think is about average.

Daycare costs depend on what type daycare you need. If it's a facility like Kinder Care expect $250- $350 per week for an infant. If it's a private home daycare $175-$250 per week. I suggest the home daycare, and you can contact the YMCA to get the phone for the YWCA daycare listings. It's a great list of private care in your area. It lets you know if they are registered with the state and much more! I hope that helps you!

It all depends on the center, or if you want a home daycare. Home daycare is usually not as expensive as a center since there are not a bunch of employees to pay. I know the center I used to work at was $178 a week for 2 year olds, and they did not take kids any younger than 2. Not all centers will take newborns, and if they do, it is usually around $200 a week or more! My oldest son was only 14 months old when I started working at the daycare, and I only stayed there for 2 months because I would constantly being home all of the germs on my clothes, and he was sick non-stop for 2 months!
After that I decided to stay home, and babysit my friend's children. I charge her next to nothing for 2 children, but that is a whole other story!!!
Good Luck with your journey, if you ever want to talk, feel free to send me an email!
