Daughter in Pain- Not Sure Why

My 2 1/2 year old woke up this morning and started grabbing her bum and saying "ow, hurt." Does this mean she is constipated? She is not grabbing her tummy at all, just her actual bum. She does have a slight diaper rash from wearing a diaper overnight but it doesn't seem that bad, and I already put some Desitin on it. She has had much worse diaper rashes and its not bothered her this much. I don't think she's been constipated a day in her life, so I really don't know what to do, or if that's the problem. She is potty trained during the day and she's peed once so far on the potty and is in underwear now. But she keeps whimpering from the couch, and I feel so bad. I also feel a little silly calling the doctor to say "uh, her bum hurts...what do i do?" so I thought I would get some mommy opinions first.

Added: she does poop on the potty no problem, she goes at least once a day around 10am (yes that regular!) and sometimes a second time in the afternoon. She gets a kick out of it, has to show me after, then waves bye bye as she flushes it. I think she went twice yesterday, second one was little and maybe a little more yellow than usual. About the muscle thing, that could be a possibility I didn't think of, she was at the playground yesterday doing a lot of climbing.

What can I do next?

Where is the decoder ring for children when you need it?:) The first thing that popped into my head is did you all do something new or different that would have caused her to use her glutes more than normal? Swimming, jumping up and down (excessively), a sprited play date, trip with a lot of stairs. I know, silly, but it sounds like a muscle issue since no tummy grabbing. I know that after a change in my routine it can cause me discomfort. My boys always complain of sore muscles after a day at the water park, family vacation where we hike, etc.
You could try an appropriate dose of children's advil or a topical muscle cream to rule that out before you call the DR.
Hope she starts feeling better soon!

I honestly don't think it's silly to call the doctor since it's abnormal for her. Worst case scenario, they give you a game plan for dealing with possible constipation and ask you to call back if it doesn't get better.

Unfortunately, our 2 year old has chronic constipation caused by encopresis. So, we have a different issue - she's basically afraid to poop and causes her own constipation.

Fiber, more liquids will be the best way to help her go.
But, it's not out of the question for something like a hemorrhoid to have formed, an anal fissure, etc. That's why I recommend at least calling the pediatrician before treating something you don't know for sure what it is.

do you have triple antibotic ointment? It has a numbing solution in it and will stop the burning instantly. You may also want to keep diaper rash ointment on her all the time until she she's poopy trained. It will be a barier against her poop and her skin and it will stop any burning from happeneing.

Have you looked at it? I'm sure that's what the doctor would do first. Look for swelling or redness or of course any sign of bleeding or torn skin. She might have had a previous bowel movement that hurt coming out and made her sore.

Wat and see if she poops today. If she doesn't go at her regular time, give her a large helping of fruit (pears, peaches, prunes) and see if that helps.
What was the consistency yesterday? Was it hard? Little pellets? It should be the consistency of toothpaste and the shape of a banana. If it's not, load her up with fruits and water.
If it's not constipation, it could be a tight muscles or something. Either way..have her take it easy for today (easier said than done) and see what happens.

They do a lot of play-acting at thazt age. She could just be doing it to get your attention and to see your emotions at work. poop color sounds fine.

OH poor little one,

1. Never feel silly asking the doctor, that is why you have one and that is what they are for.
2. you do not mention when she last went poop, and what it was like, and how long she has been training.
3. she might be having some letting go issues which is making her constipated. (kids have issues while potty training letting go of the poop on the potty, it is such a loss, so they do not really go) Give her some prunes.
4. She might have a UTI (urinary Tract Infection) Have her drink LOTS of fluid to flush it and if you can Cranberry Juice.
5. She might have a Female issue causing pain & Itching

I would call the doctor and take her in.
