Daughter Constantly Has to Go to the bathroom/NO Bladder Infection

my six year old visits the bathroom about 50 times a day. I took her to the doctor last week to get tested for a bladder infection which she does NOT have. They said they think she has voiding dysfunction, whatever that is. I am going to take her to a urologist but they are scheduling a month out.

She has already been dealing with sensory processing disorder, now this, another "disorder". It is so sad because there is nothing I can do for her, no medecine I can give her.

She literally asked me why she is so different than her friends, and why she has to go to the bathroom so much. It has gotten to the point that she is afraid to go somewhere incase there is no bathroom there, or incase someone will not let her go.

I already told her school that if she needs to go, they need to let her. Today before she left she said she had to go and another teacher heard her and said loudly "you go to the bathroom more than anyone I know!!!!" I pulled that teacher aside and gave her a piece of my mind.

Has anyone ever dealt with this? Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do? My heart is breaking for my poor little 6 year old. Thank you in advance for any ideas.

What can I do next?

I had to read you post twice I thought it was writing it. My daughter is also 6 and goes to the bathroom a million times a day and has a processing disorder, very weird, anyway there is not much that I have found with the exception of just telling all those that she is around to let her go as needed. I have found that some of the teachers are very insensitive and really need to be pulled aside, I told my own daughter that her bladder just needs extra attention and that everyone is different in there own way. Hopefully she will grow out of it good luck keep us posted on the out come of her appt. I am curious to see how it goes, I may have to go that route also.

I read your message and you are not alone I have the same problem with my 5 yr old daughter and it is to the point she won't go to the bathroom alone anymore or even sleep alone once she wakes up because she has to use the bathroom. It get's very frustrating, I did the same thing took her in to the doctor because she did have a uti a few months back but this has become worse over the last 2 months. I do not like going any where because she always has to go and she cannot hold it so if there's no bathroom around I have to pull on the side of the road and she does not like that she says only boys do that. I also have a 10 yr old who is mentally ill and my marriage is on it's end so I know where your coming from, I have filed for seperation not what he wants but he did it. As far as the peeing issue I have tried everything possible I Love when the doctor says how late do you let her drink like i don't know what I am doing duh but I stop drinks by 7 pm and nothing else has helped either someone told me about a tea remidy that helped the bladder and makes them sleep longer try getting her to drink it. Any way my name is D. I am from RI and I am here if you need to talk I don't know anyone else in this situation but I would have done the same thing you did about what the teacher said.

I wouldn't go to the urologist yet either....they are invasive and they will make her feel VERY uncomfortable. I had similar trouble because I have a small bladder. Not a bad thing, but I need to go much more often then others. Let her go and do not make a big deal out of it. YES, it is difficult to "fit" into everyone elses schedule, but, oh well!! People around her will just need to adjust! As she grows, she will learn and be able to hold it a little longer then the "feeling" allows her. I had many accidents(embarrassing ones)when I was little because the folks in charge made me wait to long.....then a big deal was made of the fact I had to go often.

Leave her to do what she feels she needs to do. Going to more doctors will make her feel she is weird and drawn attention to it even more. Time will even things out.

You said your daughter has sensory processing problems. Perhaps the feeling of a little urine in her bladder makes her feel like she needs to void. I would not sign her up for urology tests yet, which are very invasive. I would work with her on delaying going to the bathroom to see if the bladder can be streached to hold a little more.

About me: 59 year old RN, Kinship Caregiver of almost a 6 year old girl. We went through this type of problem about a year ago. My gd also has some sensory issues.

Has she been tested for diabetes yet? I would give that teacher a piece of my mind I am actually going to go have a chat w/ my son's teacher bc she made him clean the bathroom!

How long has this been going on for? I do know frequent trips to the bathroom could be a sign of diabetes as well as excessive thirst, weight loss, irritability, weakness, fatigue, stomach pains and blurred vision. My nephew was diagnosed last month. Hopefully this isn't the case with your daughther just want to add to the suggestion from a previous post.

I am sure this is NOT the case but did they do labs to rule out diabetes? My son was diagnosed with it last month and this was one of the signs. He was always constantly extremely thirsty.

Seeing a urologist will hopefully give you some answers and don't stop until you get some even if you need 2nd and 3rd opinions.
Good Luck. P.
