Can babies "lose their voices" from screaming too much? Leah has been screaming for 3 days (not through the night, just during the day....Alllllll day) and she sounds a little hoarse...Is it possible its from all the crying? Or could she be sick?
Ohhh the days are long around here...

So What Happened?

Here is a list of things we have tried to calm this girl down...Mylicon, Gripe Water, Infant Tylenol, 2 different formulas, changing moms diet, a swing, riding in the car (ohhh she hates the carseat), swaddling (and the rest of the happiest baby book), Dr. Browns, Playtex Nurser, Gerber Preemie, we have seen lactation consultants, and she takes Zantac 3 times a day...The doctor tried putting her on this new formula to reduce colic symptoms, but she wants nothing to do with it, so she screamed alot the last couple days because she was hungry, last night I gave in and breastfed her through the night. I think Im going to need to do a little of both just to comfort her. Today will be another adventure..part of the problem is that she only wants me to be holding her, standing up...so if I put her down even if she is sleeping she wakes up screaming. And when I sit down with her she starts getting fussy. I guess she just knows what she wants. If I find anything that works I'll let everyone know.

My little guy was very similar to what you've said here. His magical Cure was goats milk, as was mine, and all my siblings, and my moms, and all her siblings (my grandma says we were all screamers 'till she gave us goats milk). It turned out to be that formula upset his stomach and the constant motion soothed his stomach. If nothing works out, try this please ? Look in the Baking section of walmart or publix next to the other canned milks...mix bottles equal parts water & milk. Good Luck !!!

Have you tried to carry her in a baby wrap or a sling. These are both great. They helped my sooth my babies and have a hand free. This is a great site to look at. http://www.thebabywearer.com/articles/WhatTo/BriefGuide.htm

I have to tell you I am really concerned about this. Is she really crying all day? Nothing you do comforts her? Has she been crying like this since birth or is this something new? I take it the dr is trying formula because he thinks it may be colic but colic is only in the late afternoon early evening hours, not all day. And the doctor is asking you to stop breastfeeding (the most natural and healthy choice for your baby)and the least likely to cause colic or intestine distress and switch to formula temporarily. I would say you need to find another pediatrician. A sudden change in crying is an indication that something is wrong-especially in one so young.
I dont want to alarm you but did your baby have a thorough exam? No ear infection? etc. I would call your dr back and ask for another appointment and that he listen to you or change doctors.

This just happened to us about a month ago when my daughter got her molars. She screamed and cried so much, she lost her voice. The doctor told us to just *try* to keep her from screaming.....yeah, right! It went away on it's own in about 5 days but she sounded so funny in the meantime. Good luck!

My daughter is 16 now but she was a crying baby from the day I brought her home from the hospital. I breastfed her on demand yes when you breastfeed you have to control your diet but it is good for you as well to eat healthy.
Breastfed babies who dont nurse on demand will still cry. Mine since she was such a needy baby nursed all the time!!!! It was like oh gosh again I wanted to meet her needs and make her happy so I breastfed when she cried.

She turned out to be a very demanding toddler and a very demanding pre teen and teen!! I think some kids are born needy demanding and sensitive good luck

I dont think she should be screaming all day, that doesnt sound right. What kind of bottles are you using? Dr. Browns bottle are really good, they help reduce colic and gas. You may try to give her Mylicon Drops for gas, teething tabs for cutting teeth, or she may be hungry. Is she going to the bathroom, pooping ok?? These are just a few things that I thought of that could be causeing her to yell so much. My little one did this for about a week, I took him to the hospital and he had a double ear infection. But he is 8 months old to.
If she keeps it up, you may want to call your Ped, and take her in to ease you mind, and try to figure out what the problem is. No baby should cry and scream like that. Plus you will lose your sanity to.
GOod luck

At the same age my son lost his voice too. He was a little sick and lost his voice. When he cried it was soooooo sad but it went away on its own. I wouldn't worry about it unless he is actually sick.
