Could Chocolate Teddy Grahms Possibly Have Caffine

my baby had insomnia last night. She wasn't sick and she wasn't in pain, she just couldn't seem to sleep. I went down a list of all things she ate to see if maybe she got a dose of caffine. She had chocolate flavored grahm crackers. Could that possibly be the culprit? There was nothing else in her diet that was new.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

it was probably teething. But to play it safe, i probaly won't give her the chocolate teddy grahms again. It was convinient because she got hungry when I was in the grocery store and it came in its own pack that she could hold, unlike her cherrios. I may give her a few, but not let her devour the whole bag again. She didn't eat her dinner that night either, so chocolate teddy grahms are out for now.

Hey Heidi, You sound like me in the domestic area, in the 90's my neightbors, and brothers and sisters in my church used to call me the June cleaver of the 90's. Any way I do beleive all chocolate if not artificial has some amount of caffine, depending on how much she ate and at what time, i would say it was more the sugar than caffine, my children ate those, my daycare children eat them, no problems sleeping. It could be she just wasn't tired. What kind of artistry do you do? J. L.

Here's some links about chocolate and caffeine:

Just research it... there are varying conclusions.

How old is your baby? Sugar can give them a temporary energy swing, ie: sugar high. But then it swiftly drops down, and then it causes tiredness.

All the best,
Susan

My little guy eats those and we've never had issues...I agree with the previous poster, she probably just wasn't tired.

Chocolate does have some caffeine in it.. however, just how much is actually in teddy grahams isn't measured. However, what was probably the issue was the amount of refined sugar and then refined flour that she consumed in those... not to mention the preservatives. If you feel that she needs a treat you would be better off giving her fruit or a more natural form of animal cookie such as snackimals, which are found at any decent health food store. Good luck!

I limit my sons sugar intake for about 3 hours before bedtime. he has a hard time sleeping if he has any type of sugar. Then again some nights he simply doesn't want to sleep which is SO hard for me since I work full time and am a single mom. I would say that it may just be a one time thing. Also, when my son is teething BAD he has trouble sleeping as well. I hope that it was just a one time thing and you can go back to sleeping thru the night tonight. :)
