Confused About Relgion

I've attended Connection Church (formerly known as Tri-City Christian Center) in Canton, on Sheldon Rd, just north of Michigan Ave for almost 5 years, and I think they are great. They are very welcoming to newcomers & non-judgemental. With that being said, they are Christians that do preach from the Bible, and although not often, there are occasional sermons on those touchy issues like you mentioned, but I have to say the sermons are always though-provoking, they don't make you feel like a bad person. They don't have that "You're going to hell if you do (fill in the blank)" kind of attitude.

I attend a bible based teaching church whose vision is strenghting and rebuilding families in Southfield, Michigan (Family Victory Fellowship). The teching is not a bashing, I have never heard it in my 8 years of attending. They teach strictly based on the word of God, they have a awesome children's ministry which I am a part of. I go to Southpoint Community Christian Church. It is located Downriver and is nondenominational. Everyone wears jeans. It is very casual. They have flavored coffees that each person can take into the mass with them. Very laid back. The childrens' programs are awesome. After church, they have a free brunch every week. It's so nice. If you are looking for the "perfect church," good luck. We have all fallen short ... Churches are full of sinners, like me. We are seeking a closer relationship with the Father, we want to "hear" what He is telling us to do, we are learning to lean and put our trust in Him. We want to discover "our true purpose." We want to enjoy this wonderful gift, life. Life is God's gift to us. What we do with our lives is our gift to God. It all starts with love, being grateful, reading His word, acting on His word, and fellowship with like-minded folks. Visit churches and listen for a word from Him. You will find where you belong. My husband is the same way about religion... rasied by a fanatical catholic mother in a communist country, so he was forced to go to church and then at school the kids would make fun of him. There is a difference between Religion and faith. Religion is sort of a business. It must provide services: i.e. a building, salaries, etc. They must think about money somewhat (without it being the focus). Whereas Faith or Spirituality, is not a business. You'll need to find the right mix, which ios very hard to do. If you are interested in trying a CAtholic Church, I go to St. Alfred's in Taylor on Telegraph Road, we could meet prior to going so that you would know one person before attending. I have a couple friends that go there, we all have litle kids.

I also have a friend that loves Gesu parish in Detroit. She left the suburban churches for the urban, which she felt was more open and inviting (and I can't believe they have a lot of money at that parish)... Try some different churches and don't feel like shopping around is bad. We shop for a lot of things prior to buying, why not our faith community. We must feed ourselves.
