Cold Feet About Girls Weekend Away

I love this site! Okay, my b'day is Tuesday and I have been planning a girls weekend away to visit a friend in Ocala, I live in Jacksonville, for a month. Now that this weekend is here, I have cold feet. My daughters are 4 and 8. My hubby is more than capable of taking care of them, they are epitomize the phrase daddys' girls, but I have never left them.
I am turning 43, I'm a hard-working SAHM, I know I need this time but I can't get excited about going.
In words of Clash, "Should I Stay or Should I Go?"

What can I do next?

GO!!!!

The best way to grow as a person is to do the thing that scares us. Whether that is to ride a scary roller coaster or have a fun weekend away. Sometimes you just need to go for it.

HAVE FUN!!!!!!

Go! I started doing weekends away from the kids as soon as they were off the boob. The kids need time to bond with dad. Do it for the sake of the children!

Go. Your husband will never know how hard you work if you don't give him a chance to see what it's like for you to not be there.

I'm remembering an old country song we used to laugh about the title of:
"How can I miss you if you won't ever leave?"

Let him miss you some so he'll appreciate you more!

OMG go. Everyone will survive. You will regret it big time if you do not go.
Maybe it is time to start letting go a bit. What do you think will happen while you are gone? I am sure they will have a blast. They can eat piazza, have movie night, popcorn. Probably all the things you do not want them to have.
You know what, they will create some great memories and be none the worse. It is a win win for all. Have fun!

Go!!!! The cold feet are totally normal. This is as much about you giving your girls some time alone with their dad just as much as it is about you going with your girlfriends. Have fun! My daughter (now 15) loves to pick out outfits for me when I'm going out - include them in packing maybe.

Have a glass of wine and start thinking about all the fun you'll have instead of focusing on the guilt of leaving. That will help you get psyched

Go go go!

I just returned from a 10 day trip to visit my sister in Shanghai. It was hard to leave my boys, (ages 5 and almost 2) but it was good for them to have the time with their dad, and they had a blast. I had a great time with my little sis, and came home excited to see my family, and relaxed from my vacation. You need the break, and your girls need to know that you can go away, come back and everything will be fine.

This is a good thing. Give yourselves a chance to miss each other a little.

You're going to Ocala, not California. Worst case scenario you can zip right back home.

I'm not a fan of leaving little kids but your girls aren't babies anymore (ouch - I hope that didn't hurt!!).

Have a great time and Happy Birthday!

PS: I am 43 and am in awe of you with younger kids. My two are going to be 19 and 16 this spring. :/

GO.... Your children will be fine. At some point or another you will be a night away from them. I would think you had been away by now.. 4 and 8 years old???

Make it an adventure for you and for them. They NEED this special time with dad just like you NEED special time for yourself.

This is a part of your girls AND YOU growing up. You will not always be under the same roof. Go have some fun, lighten up and come back re-energized. Everyone will reap a positive benefit from this outing.

GO! You will feel this confusion till you are home. But once you say good byes and step out of that main door....the further away you go from home, the easier it will be to be happy about your decision. So dont even think about not going.
Your daughters are going to be perfectly fine. If there are any specific activities they do, leave those details in a book or fridge whiteboard.
I suggest that you decide u will check on them twice a day at specific times and not get worked up in their entire daily schedule on phone or else u as a Mom would want to tell where the socks are or what to feed them. NO! Just check on them twice a day, at that time do a skype if u want to see them. But thats it. Rest of the time is yours and you shouldnt be called unless its absolutely necessary. And no, asking if they can eat chicken nuggets for dinner does not qualify. Dont sweat the small stuff at home while you are gone and just have fun. You deserve it and when u come back happy, feeling energized, trust me you will feel the difference.

Are you going for a girls weekend or away for a month?

I say heck yeah to a girls weekend!! I just had a girls night (dinner, drinks, musical, dancing, hotel) and it was a fabulous 24 hours that I thoroughly enjoyed! My boys are 8 and 4 and my husband pushed me to go and I am glad he did :)

Just go.
Its only for a weekend right?
But you've been planning it for a month.

When I had my 2nd child, I was in the hospital for 3 days. Meanwhile my Hubby was home with my eldest, my daughter. She was about 3 almost 4 at the time.
And boy oh boy, even if I was in the hospital for those 3 days... it was like a VACATION! I loved it. (I had had a c-section).
It was so relaxing.
And I knew my Hubby was at home taking good care of my daughter.
It was fine.

I would go. Dad deserves a fun weekend alone with the kids occasionally. Enjoy. My son was 18 months old the first time I took a weekend away - a grown ups only 70th party for my mom. No way I would miss that. Since then, I have taken some time away. So has DH. Not a problem.

I so get that feeling, and what I have to do is determine if it's more likely that I'll end up going. If so, then I start putting everything in place and psych myself up. If it feels like too much work, then I stay home.

How many of you are going--just you, to visit one friend? In that case, I'd probably tell her how I'm feeling (that's ME, though) and ask her to help me get pumped to leave my house. (My friends understand that it's not about them when I just can't embrace getting up and out.)

Do as I say not as I do:)

I think you should go and that you will have fun but I have not left my girls either and they are 10 and 14.

I have friends that go away several times a year and someday I will join them but for the time being I simply have no desire to go away and leave them. My 14 year old is almost 15 and a freshman in HS. I know I only have another 3 years with her and she will be off to college doing her own thing.

Do what feels right for you.

I completely understand. Don't worry about getting excited. Just GO and you will be excited once you get there and have some fun. Think of it as recharging your batteries and to be a good productive mama, you need to be rested and and taken care of. Let go of the guilt and GO! Happy Birthday early by the way :)

Go, but don't stay the whole month if you don't want. Ocala is close enough to Jax that you can come home after a few weeks if you miss everyone too much.
