I just came across a bunch of bottles of Coconut water. Looks like they expired December of this last year..
Do you think they are still safe to drink? Can I use the water to water plants or my yard?
Do I need to just pour them down the drain?
Pepsi started the 'best if used by dates' back in the early 1990's. Marketing it as a 'fresher taste better product' gimmick. What is actually is is a way to get consumers to toss perfectly good foods and buy new.
It is a gimmick to double their profits and get more of your money in their bank accounts.
if the bottle is sealed.. never opened.. open smell it.. taste it .. if it smells fine and tastes fine.. it is fine..
nothing happens on the day a product expires.. products are good for a long time after expiration..
I would think they are still fine.... those are "best if used by" dates, usually...... stuff is usually good for several months after the date.
Capitol Area Food Bank commonly gives out expired stuff......
I wouldn't worry about it. If they taste ok, I'm sure they are ok.
expiration dates are generally very, very conservative. i tend to take them as 'loose suggestions.'

my SIL on the other hand will not keep anything in her kitchen one day past the expiration date. i love it cuz she knows i'm lax and i'm often the beneficiary.
coconut water? wouldn't faze me one bit. if it smells off that's a different story, but i'm very sure yours is fine.

With questions like this, I usually call the company directly. The number should be on the label. You might even get some free coupons.
