Are these people personal friends as well as employees? That may make a difference. Gifts to friends are more personal.

If, however, you consider them employees, you could give them money - that's the standard gift for this sort of relationship. Or you could give a gift card for a store you know your sitter likes. I would also give the daughter a gift card, too, for a store SHE likes - which is probably different than her mother's preference, don't you think? ;^)

Gift cards for stores or restaurants in your area. That's what I give my mail carrier every year. She gets all excited knowing that she and hubby get a free dinner during the holidays at Applebee's. I usually get one for 40 bucks... so it covers two meals and a dessert.

I emailed my sitter's husband on Facebook and he told me she keeps talking about getting highlights in her hair. So I am going to TRY to get her a $100 card to JCPenney. She has been truly amazing to us. Even dropping what we owed her when my husband got out of work. So that was something just for her :).

Gift card to her favorite restuarant, spa or mall. This is something she would likely not do for herself.

The family I babysit for will usually get me something small but thoughtful. Last year the mom got me some bubble bath and aromatherapy candles cause she knew I was graduating from school and stressing over a job. She also let her daughter "pick out" something from the store. She got me these warm fuzzy socks. I loved it! I have been with that family for a while so it was sweet to get something that I knew her daughter had more of a say in, since she is the one I spent most of my time with.

I would agree though with the giftcards or just bath or good smelling gifts, unless you know of specifically something that she would really like. But, let your kids help pick stuff out if possible. As far as her daughter, you should probably do something similar.

gift cards along with something like a christmas ornament. I did daycare for a long time. Gift cards or cash are the best. Its nice to get a photo of the kids inside a christmas card but it is great to get a gift that I can actually use.
