My son is allergic to many food staples (diagnosed 1.5 weeks ago). Since we eat a lot of fresh, live foods, anyway, so far we are not having too much trouble. However, breakfast is a headache! I need suggestions are cereals (that don't cost a million $$). Any recipe ideas for any meal are welcomed, too!

So What Happened?

Thanks to all who responded! I did not even consider hash browns & bacon! I will be trying the recipe ideas.

My mother is also allergic to wheat and dairy. We have found a whole line of foods at Meijer that is gluten and dairy free. It costs about the same as the other stuff. She likes it and says it tastes just like the "real" stuff. They have most of it all together in one isle. There is pancake mix, bread mix, cereal, cookies... a lot of everyday foods. If you would like more info please contact me and I will get more information from my mom. I do know she eats alot of fish, turkey, chicken and rice. She also uses the Lactaid milk substitute in the blue package. It tastes the most like real milk.
Good luck~ E.

My friend's child has the same allergies & she got very creative with meals. To make meatloaf use italian dressing instead of egg (as some recipes call for) & oats for the bread in the mixture. Find your nearest Co-Op they are great with sales & useful info. EnviroKids cereal is mostly wheat free and my kids love it (our Co-Op has good deals on them). I think the Co-Op or other natural food stores have better deals than Meijer. Better Health Store is a good place. They send me coupons every mo. Buckwheat flour for pancakes are a good sub for wheat based ones and you can use any milk in place of cow's milk (they are more dense but worth it). Oatmeal is a good option for breakfast if your child likes the consistency (my middle child doesn't like mushy textures). Earth Balance is a yummy vegan marg. - that doesn't taste yucky. This can be put on toast, pancakes, waffles, etc. Soy yogurt is good for breakfast, diff. taste but good. Look online and at the library for useful info. Good luck!

meijer and harvest health have good dairy and wheat replacements. i would also recommend any rice cereal and rice or soy milk. fried potatoes or hash browns, if your son will eat scrambles tofu - it can look just like eggs with a dash of tumeric and there are lots of good recipes for that online. we like to eat mochi which is a great bread substitute in the mornings. it comes in all different flavors and you just cut it up and bake it for ten minutes and you can add jelly, butter, peanut butter - whatever you want. we get that at harvest health in the refrigerator section.
