Child Entertainment in Seattle, Tacoma Area.

There are so many options in Seattle and Tacoma! In Tacoma there is the Children's Museum, which my 6 year old daughter LOVES! There's also Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, depending on how the weather is. This time of year, there will be Zoo Lights which is great.

In Seattle, there is so much for kids to see and do at the Seattle Center. You could spend a full day there! There's also the iMax theater. The past couple years they've showed "Polar Express" in 3D there. It's a great movie for Christmastime. There's ice skating at the Seattle Center too, but probably not for a 2 year old. =)

One thing I like about the Children's Museum and Seattle Center is that there is so much for them to do inside when the weather isn't so nice outside! Enjoy!

Zoolights at Pt. Definace is generally pretty good. There's also ice skating at Bellevue Square. Part of the rink is covered and part is open air.

There is a children's museum, the zoos (Point Defiance & Woodland Park), the Seattle Aquarium, and Argosy Cruises. We've spent quiet a bit of time in the area with our boys, the cruise is something that they usually love! The Seattle aquarium is nice, but expensive and somewhat small. The Point Defiance zoo is hands down one of their favorite things to do. It has an aquarium portion in with it, so if they like fish, its a great win-win and the admission is worth it.

Our kids also loved going to the Pike Place Market, all the sights and sounds were great. Just be careful because it can get really hectic and packed. So keep a close eye on the little ones.

You may want to look into the City Pass, it has admission for a few of the different places for a great discounted price and is good for a few days.

I have to agree that Point Defiance zoo is the best! It's like a relaxing version of the regular zoo...there's less to do there, but enough trails for a good walk and the play area will appeal to the kids. However, you have to pay to get in.

If you are looking for free and/or cheaper things to do, don't forget the simpler, the better (simple is probably best for this age as well!) You can go window shopping in downtown Seattle and the carousel might still be up from Christmas. You can feed the ducks at a local park. You can go on a trail walk almost anywhere. You can stay home and make cookies, or make homemade playdough which they will adore. You can go to a local market - or Pike Street Market - and pick out all the goodies for dinner, then go home and make it. You can go to the Seattle waterfront and eat at Ivars and feed the seagulls - there's a carousel and the aquarium on the waterfront too. You can take a ferry ride. You can go to West Seattle for a walk on the beach and lunch out. You can go to a local mall to the play area. You can go out to a McDonalds with a playground. You can go to the library. You can go hunting for Christmas lights at night. You can go ice skating or roller skating if they want to try it. After all that, you will be tired and want to go home for a nap! LOL!

One of my biggest lessons as a parent was when we spent over $100 on tickets to the circus. The kids didn't really seem to enjoy it. Afterwards we walked by the Seattle Center and the giant fountain was on. THIS was the hit of the day...getting wet in the water! For free! They talk about it still (over five years later) and don't remember the circus at all. Of course it was summer, so you probably won't be able to do this in the winter ;)

You have to go to the Seattle pacific science center! Its so much fun for kids! Its right there next to the Seattle center and you can make a day of it. My kids are 2 and 7 and we still go to the science center every time we visit, its a blast! Everything there is hands on and the kids never want to leave!

Also there is something called a Seattle city pass it gets you into the zoo, aquarium, the Experience music project, the museum of flight, the science center and an argossy cruise... its $44 for adults and $29 for kids (your 2 year old is still free for all this stuff) and its valid for 9 days...

The zoo and museums are great, also check out www.parentmap.com for their calendar of events, they'll have all sorts of activities, concerts, plays, etc for kids, some are free, even better!

http://www.co.pierce.wa.us/pc/abtus/ourorg/parks/flights.htm there is a Fantasy Lights in Spanaway (above website) It is fun because you don't get out of the car and you can drive at your own pace. There are lots of pretty cool displays and the kids are in total wonderment.

The Children's Museum at Seattle Center is nice for a rainy day and Winterfest is also going on now. I haven't been yet but they have a model train set up, a carousel and ice skating. They often have singers and such too on the main stage in the center house.

A great holiday-time outing is to the Christmas carousel at Westlake Park downtown, then taking the monorail to Seattle Center to see the sights (our favorites are the big fountain, the holiday model train set-up at the Center House, and if time also the Seattle Children's Museum). Going up in the Space Needle is free for kids up to age 3, though it's about $16 for adults. If it's a clear day it might be worth it - we always like to stand under it for free and look up in wonderment. :-) They might also be running the ferris wheel at the Fun Forest under the Space Needle.
You can either take the bus from home to downtown (a fun treat for our almost-3-year-old), park in a garage downtown, or park near the Seattle Center and take the monorail to downtown & back for the carousel.

we love the children's museum in Seattle, as well as Pike's Market (although bundle up) and the zoo in Seattle. I assume, although we have not been, that the aquarium is a hit with kids - usually is...You might also try a pottery painting place. Great question - we are pretty new to the seattle area, can't wait to see responses!

When I need ideas I go to Parent Map's website as well as my local Parks & Rec center. If you are near a library or second-hand children's store pick up a copy of the Parent Map free paper and the calendar is printed inside. Also, I live in Lynnowod, and our paper The Enterprise has local events printed in it's pages. You might have the same thing.

Woodland park zoo has a wonderful play area inside plus you can go see all the animals too

You should go to the point defiance zoo. Woodland park zoo is a must and the seattle aqarium. The children's museum is always fun and then there is the Raindeer festival at Cougar Mountain Zoo. Good luck and have fun.

Point defiance zoo is having zoo lights in the evenings that my kids really like. The zoo is also open during the day. The children's museum at Seattle Center is fun. The pacific science center is also right there. The super mall has an indoor play area that will allow the kiddos to burn off some energy if you aren't looking to spend any money.

A Seattle City Pass is good for 5 attractions in Seattle (Seattle Aquarium; Argosy Cruises - Seattle Harbor Tour; Pacific Science Center; Woodland Park Zoo; and The Museum of Flight OR Experience Music Project | Science Fiction Museum)my kids had fun at all of the attractions when they were that age. We went to the Museum of Flight instead of the Music, I think the flight museum was their favorite. Sometimes Costco will sell City Passes for an even better price. Here is a link to the website.
