Ok we got the cats from the Vet on Sun adn we were JUST pulling in the drive and poor Patches pooped in her kennel and OMW it was AWFUL smell and VERY runny. Well I got her cleaned up as good as I could but still on her sort of stained. What can I do to get it off her and NOT SMELL? She sleeps with us but I do not want it on our bed of course. I did get some Bath spray for her but does not seem to be working to good. Also she has BAD dandruff. I have been brushing her but I would not thing that would do it. Just curious.... OH also she has been putting her tail up and it is shaking like she ios going to pee but does nothing Y is she doing this? She has not eaten since she has been home NOR gone in litter box. Is that how it is after surgery or not? Thx, M.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I called the Vet and they said if she is not eating by wed to give them a call back. SO I have 2 days to wait to see what happens I guess. I got the Bath Time stuff you spray on but do not see a difference and I did the baby wipes of my sons unscented and OH LORD no better.

Not fun but she needs to have a bath. A good cat shampoo with conditioner in it would be best. If she isn't using the litter box or eating then there is something more going on and you need to contact the vet immediately. This is to long without food and definitely to long without using the litter box unless Patches is going to the bathroom someplace else!

Dear M.,

I hope and pray Patches will be O.K.

As far as the smell is concerned, she will help take care of it too. Cats don't like being dirty, so she will clean herself the best she can. I hate to recommend more thorough bathing in case she's too ill to withstand the chill from being wet.

The tail shaking is a normal thing. Our little girl kitty does it in anticipation of treats, or when she's being especially affectionate. It goes back to the wild behavior of cats. In the wild, they spray their territory to mark it as "home." Our little girl never actually marks, but gets "shaky tail" when she's especially happy.

Please give Patches a hug for me, and some nice, gentle ear scratches, too.

Please take your cat back to the vet (for a visit, not like take her back forever) - she could be very sick.

Boy that brings back memories...lol, They do have places in our area to wash your pets for a fee. Our dogs cost $20.00 a piece which I think is reasonable. We got our kittens fixed at the same time, when i picked them up from the vets, I put a blanket on the bag seat and of course the got sick on the way home. Cats usually clean themselves, and they are very hard to bathe, But if you must, run the water warm not hot in the tub 1st, then take the cat in room and shut the door, have plenty of towels on hand and keep a firm grip on the cat or you will be scratched. There are alot of good animal products but if times are hard baby shampoo will work fine. If your cat has stitches you might have to wait a while.

I would give her a bath and then dry her best you can. The tail raising is marking her territory usually done by males but females do it as well.Having them fixed usually stops most of that. I woud get her back to the vet as soon as possible if she is not eating or going potty. Something is very wrong.

They make bath wipes for cats. They work pretty much just like a baby wipe does. We had luck getting our cats fairly clean with them. In regards to the shaking and not eating, I would call the vet ASAP! They should be able to answer your questions.

Hi M.,

Did you give the cat a good bath? I wasn't sure because you sadi you cleaned it up as best as you could. Also, it seems as though the cat just had surgery, but I am not sure, it just was insinuated with your last sentence. if that is the case, I see that you are avoiding a full bath- due to surgical cuts and the healing process. It could be normal for the tail thing while trying to pee, but it sounds like a UTI. The poor kitty. If she just had surgery, I would just keep her in the crate at night time(due to her smell and runny pooh pooh, and give it a couple of days). but for now, you should DEF call the vet that did the surgery to see if this behavior is normal or if she needs an antibiotic for a UTI.

If she didn't have surgery, bath her completely with a good OATMEAL cat bath shampoo and call the vet about a possible UTI (urinary tract infection).

Good luck to you and especially your kitty!

A.

the shaking thing is normal. cats do that when they are trying to "spray". be very greatful that nothing is coming out. she is still smelling the vet on her so she wants the house to smell like her even though nothing is coming out it is just a natural habit.
the bad smell is probably just that she is not cleaning herself like she normally does because she is not feeling well. give her some time. we had a cat that was like that all the time. we wound up calling her smelly butt. she just never cleaned herself as much as our other cats did. just keep cleaning her yourself and keep the hair cut short.
good luck
