Morning all

Have cat who does this dance with his litter - never seen anything like it. Goes everywhere - no matter how clean box is, it's his routine.

Am going to try a cover and will switch up litter (just getting whatever is at Costco).

Have any of you had success with a particular liter box/system? Thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Will try a different litter - thinks that's part of the problem maybe, and definitely a new box style. Anything would be better than having to deal with this every time he goes. It's like the farther he flicks it, the happier he is.

We once had a cat like this! He was so messy. We got a litter box with a cover and I put a little rug in front of the opening which helped keep him from spreading litter as he walked away. It definitely helped. The cat we have now is not like this at all...she is very delicate with her litter box habits. Cats are funny!

we use a box with a cover on the main floor litter box. they still track it out, but it contains the worst of the flung litter.

they prefer the one in the basement that doesn't have a cover, and they do make more of a mess. but we're lucky in not having any who do the Wild Thing.

if he'll use a covered box (some cats won't) that's probably your best bet.

We switched to a non clumping crystal litter with larger granules, it has less dust and doesn't stick to their feet as much, and you only have to remove the poop. The covered box will help but we've found that the ones with a guard around the sides work just as well. And a definite yes to the mat in front, too.

Due to some social issues between our cats, I have to keep a litter box in my room. All of these things have helped keep it clean smelling and really cut down on litter on the floor.

My cat paws litter everywhere, regardless of the type. He just loves to dig. We got a litter box cover with a door flap and this has mostly solved it. It is a very inexpensive one, the standard size that snaps onto a small litter box, from the closest chain pet store - nothing complicated.

Tip for getting the cat to use it: Take the flap door off of the cover for the first 2 weeks. Once your cat is used to going into the covered box, then put the flap on and hold it open for him the first time he goes in.
