Carpet Cleaning Options

I'd like to have my carpets cleaned in the near future. I've been looking at the different options but I'd like some opinions.

I'd like to use the "greenest" method possible. I know Sears is advertising "green" carpet cleaning but I don't know exactly what this means. I've seen companies that "steam" clean (leaves the carpet wet) or "chem dry" (doesn't leave the carpet wet?).

I'm lost! I'd love any advice :)

What can I do next?

Look at the local business here on Mamasource. There is one that is a Green Cleaning Co. I contacted them and they gave a me a great quote. I just haven't gotten around to using them yet.

A friend of mine owns a ChemDry and he was telling me that they don't really use "chemicals" their secret is in using steam and carbonation with powerful scrubbing/sucking machines... so it is definitely a green option. I had them clean the used (from the auto show) white carpet that we installed in the basement and it looks perfect now. They did some spot cleaning with a bottle of some stain remover and I don't know what was in it... but they did tell me that everything is non-toxic and the whole carpet was dry a few hours later. I highly recommend ChemDry.

I am actually using vinegar and water...on bad spots I use baking soda with the vinegar to pull the dirt/ stains. I have a cream-colored Berber carpet speckled with beige colors. (I do this to pull out oils/ dirt/ cat yak/ etc.)

If you have a steam cleaner, you can even treat high-traffic area's with this combination and just go over it w/ hot water and pull it up.

Less money spent and it's considered safe & green... Either way if you hire the company or use the steam cleaner you still use the energy~ but you may not get the fullest idea on their ingredient list.

Good luck!

Not too long ago I was searching for a carpet cleaning service after accidentally staining a friend's carpet during a film shoot and chanced on a notice here on Mamasource for a business called The Greener Cleaner in Troy. The phone number is ###-###-####. At the time, Tina E. (the owner), was offering 20% off to Mamasource members. I checked the web site and they seemed good to me. I haven't followed through yet because my friend's been out of town, but if I need to I'm going to give The Greener Cleaner a try. If you do so first, maybe you can let us know.

Good luck!

L., there is a great company listed on Mama Source, The Greener Cleaner, who I have used for my home and business...it is truly green! They were great to work with, great prices and I am very happy with the results. They cleaned my mattressess, too! Who would use Sears to do any services in their home? They contract out everything and you don't know who you'll get...yikes. The Greener Cleaner is a family owned company and the owner, Mike, does the cleaning. Their number is ###-###-####. I have referred them to many moms who have all been happy. Good Luck!
