Looking for Non-toxic Carpet Cleaner

Well, after only 4 months of living in our new house, the carpet is pretty dirty. Little boys and a muddy front yard, you see. It needs to be shampooed or steamed or SOMETHING, but I'm not sure what.

I'm hesitant to use anything with a lot of chemicals, and the less I can spend, the better. I might add, my vacuum cleaner is pretty old and sad, but the carpet is new berber.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you for the ideas. This could really be a two-part question. the other part being, should I look into one of those steam cleaning vaccum cleaners? are there any that do regular vacuuming that I can also use to shampoo or steam? I'm thinking that might be a better option than hiring someone because it looks like this is something I may have to do often.

Thanks again.

Steam cleaners are not vacume cleaners , you have to vaccume the floor before using the steam cleaner. As for vaccume cleaners I have a Hoover Healthy Home vaccume cleaner it does REALLY well and we have a long haired breed of dog. We also have a steam cleaner that we need to use more often but I never get the time because it takes forever for the carpet to dry and you can't use the room until the carpet is dry.

Sears carpet cleaning now uses Green products...environmentally-friendly products. www.searsclean.com

I don't know if this will be any help to you but.........
When I lived in NC, I also had berber. I had a company called Chem-Dry to clean my carpet. I don't know if they have one of those here, or not. They say their chemicals are safe. The man that actually cleaned my carpet said that it was so safe that he could drink it & would be fine.....There is one thing that I do know for sure about them though & that is that it doesn't take long to dry.

I purchased a Bissell Pro Heat from a local Sears store. I use natural products throughout my house. The natural product that I use is excellent on cleaning carpet and it only cost $5.24.

Hi A.,
Welcome to the area. CitroSolution is wonderful. They just did my carpets on Friday and he is coming back today to do my sofa. They use an all natural citrus cleaner that smells great. It is only $40 a room. ###-###-####. Feel free to tell Larry or Connie that a B. from a Town Lake welcome sent you. You can visit their web ____@____.com

A.,

I HIGHLY recommend CitruSolution carpet cleaning. And the BEST in the area is Georgia at ____@____.com

I use her personally and recommend her to customers and clients.

she doesn't use water, and you won't have soap left in your carpet, and she will give you a free bottle of stuff to use and show you how to use it.

She is also exceptionally reasonable in price. AND she really cares. I have had 2 men from citrusolutions (and they are GREEN) and they just don't seem to care like she does.

My two cents worth = priceless

this site had a recipe http://www.eartheasy.com/live_nontoxic_solutions.htm
i tend to use vinegar, baking soda, borax and/or essential oils for almost anything. sometimes i use the plain oxiclean if need be

Hi A.,

Shaklee, like Karen mentioned is a non-toxic product. I also use a non-toxic line too and they have a carpet cleaner recipe. The products I use are extremely inexpensive, much like Wal-Mart. As far as the "organic" or "non-toxic" you find at the stores, even Whole Foods, sometimes they are only safe for the environment and not your little ones. I believed Simple Green was safe for years because it "said" non-toxic on the bottle. It is a dangerous neurotoxin!

Get in touch with me, or Karen, and let us help you. There are so many toxic things in our lives that if you want to clean your carpets NOW, research would take forever, lol!

M.
