"Carbohydrate Addicts" Diet.... Anyone Tried This Diet?

I have about 20 pounds to lose, and I've been trying to find a diet that works for me. I tried the Atkins diet- 20 carbs a day for 2 weeks, but it was too difficult for me, I felt tired all the time... So I heard about a diet called "carb addicts"- the rules are pretty simple- you eat very low carb breakfast and lunch- no snacks, then you get a "reward meal" at the end of the day. you can eat whatever you want in a 60 minute time period.
It sounds too easy, and I was wondering if anyone knows how it works? Or IF it works?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Thanks for everyone's advice. I think I'll try it for awhile and see how things go. I'll be sure to update this later and let you all know.
Thanks again!

I haven't actually tried it, but I found a book about it and like you said, so far it sounds too good to be true. (I haven't actually gotten around to reading the whole book though.)

I think you should stay away from diets and try eating a variety of foods. From personal experience eating lots of fruits and veges and whole grains, staying away from refined and processed foods really helped. I was +32lbs when pregnant and am now -13lbs since I had my baby only 5 months ago. Just use portion control and eating as fresh as possible. Those low no carb fad diets usually do not work. Good luck!

I can only say that I DO NOT believe in diets (it's "die" with a "t" at the end! lol). Now, I am not thin, by any means and I am not what some would consider fat. But I've managed to lose my baby weight and then some just by eating in moderation. I think that is my food philosophy (sp?)...anything in moderation isn't going to do you a lot of harm...it's the excesses.

My suggestion would be to forget dieting...start to eat healthier and move a little (I hate the gym! I try to take the baby out for a walk at least three times a week). I found that when I deny my cravings, I tend to overindulge when I do get the desired item...so, when I crave chocolate, I eat a mini candybar and go on with life...no guilt.

Also, I have learned to listen to my body...it tells me what it needs...I eat when I'm hungry and don't when I'm not...and I don't typically eat three meals a day; I tend to eat a lot of small meals over the course of the day.

Just thought I would share my thoughts/experience; just remember that everyone is different. (are you trying to live up to an "ideal" that is someone else's version of you or do you want to lose the weight for yourself? That is a very important question to ask yourself, I would think)

Good luck

Well, my husband put me on a diet cuz I got about 20lbs to lose too lol.. What it is, is you eat 6 small meals a day.. Breakfast u eat a serving of cereal or something healthy.. then in between u have a snack.. like fruit or something.. then lunch u eat something like a sandwhich on wheat bread or something. then another snack as in fruit, yogurt or something.. then supper.. then if u need a late night snack like fruit.. i mean as long as you are eating something healthy in a smaller portion.. what he told me is to make sure youre eating all your food groups in healthy portions.. watch out for bad carbs like white bread and stuff.. good luck! o and if u can take some aerobics classes they work great!

K.~ This sounds like a starve yourself during the day & gorge yourself at night. Not the way to lose weight & keep it off. The key to eating right, being full & losing weight is very simple. You need to learn to know portion control, calorie intake & adding 30 mins exercise everyday to do this right.

Please check out my link of http://sparkpeople.com/mypage.asp?id=~J.~ This will help you get started on the right path to weight lose & eating healthy!

I'm not sure about the diet but you can excercise with Stroller Strides in Whittier or Brea. It is an hour workout with other moms trying to lose weight. The best part is we workout with our kids. You can go to http://classes.strollerstrides.net/moreinfo.aspx?postalCo... for more info.

While I have not tried this diet, i have recently read about it in a book that my husband just bought me, "How I lost 40 pounds,"by Dana Carpender. It's a pretty good book, she talks about all these different low carb type diets. In it she mentions that she tried the "carb addicts diet," she said that it did sound too good to be true. Her problem was the no snacking, she'd be hungry all day, and then try to stuff as much in her mouth for that 1 hour of reward meal. i don't know, i am doing low carb so good luck with it!

Yes K.! Both of my in-laws did this diet and they swear by it!!! They've lost about 28 pounds (total) and they've kept it off. I know it is so hard to find time to excercise (which I believe isthekey to weight management) when you have little ones. You need to get up an hour early and take a brisk 30 minute walk, at least 3 times a week. You won't believe the difference. And I get books on tape (2nd hand at the Book Nook on First and Herndon), they keep my mind off of the pain I'm in! I hope to hear back from you!

I would be very careful with any diets that say you can eat as much as you want for an hour, do you realize how much damage you can do in 60 min. It sounds extremely unhealthy physically and emotionally. I hate advertising for companies, but I have done weight watchers for around 5 years and have lost and kept off the 20 pounds I gained after weening my son. They teach healthy habits and portion control. You can really eat anything you want in moderation. Like anything that's worth it you have to put a little energy into it. Weight watchers gives you guidelines to do it yourself. The main thing is you have to want to do it. Good luck and be healthy with your weight loss.

Hi K.,

I also live in Fremont with 2 children (ages 4 and 2) and 1 on the way. I did try a variation of this diet MANY years ago. It did work. I know that many have their opinions on diets and what works and what doesn't. I did try this because I am a "carb addict". When I was hungry, I would eat a piece of bread or 2 instead of fruits or something healthy. I love the pastas and rice!!!! I did lose weight from it. It was a weird diet to be on at times though, because you had to plan what it was that you were going to eat and make sure that you were home or somewhere where you could "pig" out on all the carbs you wanted. What eventually happened was that I started eating more and more proteins, because you could eat that whenever, and less carbs because you were restricted to when you could eat them. I then changed how I ate, and got a more balanced diet. Now, am I still a "carb addict", yeah...but a little more controlled I would say!! I hope this helps!! Contact me if you would like to chat more about the diet or anything else, since we both live in Fremont! Good Luck!

Ok, well I have heard alot about carb or no carb diets. The best weight program is Weight Watchers. You can eat what you want, really no restrictions, you count points. You start off with a number of points for the day and 35 flex points for the week. Here is how it works: Imagine it as a bank account, everyday you have 28 dollars (points), you can withdraw as many points as you want for the day, if you go over your points you have 35 points known as overdraft pertection. and everyday you start off with 28 points. There is a book that you can look up your point values and there is also a quick reference card to calculate points. It is very easy to follow. with really no restrictions. You can a taco salad from taco Bell if you want to spend 18 points on it. I hope this helps. It worked for me, I lose 26 pounds in 7 months.

so much advice, where do you start? patience, you didnt gain it fast, you wont lose it fast. Eat right, exercise and forgive yourself for anything in between!

I have friends that count points on Weight Watchers, it works for them, I have friends that work out every day at lunch and 3 weeknight and then bicycle on the weekends, works for them.

There are so many support clubs, some expensive like those that prepackage your meals for you, some that just let you talk to others with similar problems (like TOPS), there are so many books to read, shows to watch, pills to take, diets to try.

I'm still looking for the answer so if you find the answer let me know!

I would recommend doing the curves workout and diet. What you are doing is teaching your body to stregnthen its metabolism. And you are getting tone and lean while you learn to eat right.

You eat strictly for the first week as you kickstart the program and then you fall into a managable healthy eating habits. Since I started a few months ago I lost 20lbs and I feel great. I never realized how good eating "right" made my body feel. And it's something you can do for life.
