Car Seat Use on Airlines

Hello!
I would like to know if any of you Moms and Dads have experience using the "Eddie Bauer Comfort 65" car seat on domestic and/or international flights? It is, per the manufacturer, airline approved but we have had problems with other seats actually "fitting" in the past. We are frequent travelers (as we live abroad) and a seat that will fit is a MUST. Thank you for any and all information you can extend us! :-)

What can I do next?

We were not allowed to use our own seat on international flights. Your mileage may vary on domestic flights. I would not plan on it being allowed and get a CARES harness (wish I knew about that). Ours was also approved by the manufacturer but that didn't mean the airline had to allow it. Call them, and be prepared to check it because sometimes customer service doesn't know what's really allowed/available. We were told we could borrow one of their seats, but there were only 2 per plane and we never got one.

I have not used this seat before but we do travel internationally a lot. Your seat should say on one of the stickers on the side whether or not it is approved for airline use or check you manual. Some seats are not approved and you should check as the airline can deny you to use the seat if it is not FAA approved. I have never had any issues with using any of my seats on a plane. However you must purchase a seat for the child to guarantee that you can use the seat. Any american carrier who denies you the use of your seat is wrong and should be reported. I have never heard of a plane having car seats you could borrow unless it was a bassinet and I never used one as I felt my children would be safer and more comfortable in their own seat. I would also never ever check a seat, even at the gate. Baggage handlers throw the seats around and destroy them by doing so. Happy to answer any other questions you might have.

That's great you'll bring a seat; your child will be much safer!

We use the Cosco Scenera for a child under 40 lbs, usually rear-face them to age 3 if the child is within the height/weight guidelines. The child sleeps and it's easy, or they just relax.
For under 50 lbs. we use the Evenflo Maestro, and it's a forward-facing seat only. I don't know what's available where you are, though. Most seats that are not huge and wide will fit, rear or forward-facing.

I had an Eddie Bauer car seat....it forced us to buy a minivan!! LOL!!

Call the airline you are flying with and ask them if they have had a problem with that particular car seat. And ask them what brand they NEVER have had a problem with.

Good luck! Safe travels!!
