I have a 9 month old baby girl and I am 3 months pregnant. Well I just nurse up until a month ago when I started also giving her apple juice (Gerber) and water. My breast is dried up and I am not producing any milk at all even when I pump , the most is 2 ounces a day.
She refuses to drink any formula we have tried giving her. I tried mixing it with a little applesauce and also putting some in her baby cereal. But she refuses to eat or drink anything with formula in it. We have also tried 3 different brands of formula. She eats about 4 jars of baby food a day and a bowl of rice cereal mixed with some type of fruit. Because I cant nurse anymore I have been giving her water and apple juice or some of the other baby juice. But she is only 9 months and I don't know what to do about her not getting any milk at all.

I found something that worked!!! Thank you Misty!! Her baby ped. told me to put a little chocolate syrup in her formula and Misty said to try the soy kind of formula. Well it works and it has not made her sick at all!! I am so thankful!!!!!!!

Do you warm the formula? I stopped nursing at 7 months and am now giving my son formula(Good Start). He would not eat the powder for a long time so I was feeding him the premade cans. I tried warming the water for 20 seconds before mixing the powder in and he seemed to like it much better that way. Now we have no problem giving it to him.
Try the premade cans and see if she takes to it. They sell them at Target. Good Start is the best I think.
Are you going by how much you are able to pump by not being able to nurse anymore? Is your daughter still latching on and nursing? A pump is no way to measure the amount of breastmilk you are producing, they are no where close to as effeciant as getting the milk out as baby is. Have you contacted your daughter's pedi to see if they can recommend anything (after telling them she is refusing formula?) Have you contacted your local La Leache League and spoke with a leader to see if they could be of any help?
You might try calling your pedi and seeing what they recommend. They might go ahead and let you try whole milk. My girlfriend started supplementing with whole milk with her pedi's permission at 9 months b/c she was drying up on one side.
Ofcourse talk to a pediatrician...(re allergies) because I guess it is not ideal but, I bet your little one will take whole milk, or a mix of formula and whole milk ( when I nursed my little ones did not like formula either, but would drink milk).

I can't speak to nursing while pregnant. Around 9 months, I had to supplement formula for my daughter because I couldn't pump enough for her demand during the day apart.
Anyway, she would not take the powder formula, but she would take the concentrated or pre-mixed. It's more expensive, but after smelling the difference between the powder and pre-mixed or concentrate, I don't think I would have taken it either. :)
I agree with the other moms that you should check with your pediatrician about getting milk to her rather than juice.

It's pretty h*** o* your body to nurse and be pregnant. Seems like your body knows it needs the calcium and can't spare it for your 9 month old. Have you spoken to her Ped about the juice? Not much nutrition in juice. It's all sugar. I'd try to swich brands of formula until she takes it.

Have you attended a La Leche League Meeting?? I found them to be very informative and many women have great tips on keeping your supply going while pregnant and also tandem nursing. There is a huge difference in taste and texture between breastmilk and formula. After having breastmilk for 8 months it will be quite a struggle to get her to "want" formula. Also, pumping (unless done with a hospital grade pump) is not effective at emptying the breast. I myself was not able to pump at all but have breastfed without supplementing for 14 months. Once again, I agree with Marcie B!! Your body produces breastmilk by supply and demand...the more your daughter nurses the more your body will make. Never go by what you pump as an estimate for what you're producing. I have a 10.5 month old and tried to pump the other morning (just for giggles) and couldn't get much but i know my daughter can empty my breasts out in no time because she's MUCH more efficient than a pump. Contact LLL and keep nursing and cut back on the juice for such a young babe.

I would recommend you try rice milk. My daughter was very, very picky and nursed until she was 15 months and even then I had a hard time weaning her, but she took to rice milk very easily. You can get it at Wal-mart, Target or any grocery store. The Rice Dream is the brand that I used. Good luck!
Try giving your baby carnation canned milk with water. Do half and half. It is sort of a transition to whole milk. That is what I did with my son. It may take some getting used to, but he took it after a couple of days. I put a little pinch of sugar in the bottle and a little on the nipple of the bottle. It gets them interested long enough to get used to the change. Good luck!
