Can My Baby Bouncing in His Jumberoo Harm Him ?

I'm probably sounding like a paranoid mother. My 6 month old son loves his jumberoo. It's bouncer on 4 legs which he sits in and bounces up and down in. Sometimes he bounces so hard (he loves it) I worry about it doing damage to his head. He really does bounce hard. My family laughs at how much he loves it but I do have worries about it's safety. It looks sturdy, so I know it can't fall over but I worrying about his head wobbling/going up and down ? Am I being silly ? As you can probably guess I'm at first time mother.

So What Happened?

Hi Mama's.

The majority of you put my mind at rest but seeing the way my son's head wobbles and how hard he jumps I still had this nagging doubt. So some of you suggested I call my pedi. The nurse called back and actually my Dr recommended he not use it for a few more months until his head is stronger (she saw him a week ago). My current predicament is to how to stop him going in it with my Mother In Law staying. She thinks it's great and is very old school. She thinks I'm over paranoid as it it !!! My plan is to raise the seat so he can't jump to high and limit the time, (if possible not put him in it at all for a couple of weeks). Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it.

My daughter also loves her jumperoo. I started her in it around 6 months and she is now 11 months. Nothing is wrong with her. Also, my father had to screw in boards in the bottom to make it taller because my daughter grew out of it and still loves it. I wouldn't worry too much. When he is jumping, he knows his limits even though he is a baby.

I have four little jumping fanatics and if they got shaken baby syndrome from their hours upon hours in a jumper then I'd notice it by now.

I used the kind you hang from the doorway and they'd spin themselves, too. When they got big enough they would back up and then pick up their feet and swing forward. LOL What fun. I want one! hehehe

My little one had the same kind of jumper and LOVED it. I also worried about her undeveloped spine and how it would effect her to be bouncing soo hard. I have taught gymnastics fr almost 20 years and never heard of any harm being done by a stand alone jumperoo. She is not yet 2 now and can jump with 2 feet which is an advanced skill for her age. I credit this to that jumpero. I would just make sure it is adjusted so the knees don't pass a 90 degree angle so that he is jumpin from his toes rather than his entire foot. Good luck!!

Hi,
The jumperoo was lifesaver for me! It was the only thing my son would sit in for a while and not squirm to get out of. My pediatrician does not like these things, not do the brain, yet do the legs. I guess jumping on legs that are not ready to be jumped on. Please, I think they are fine. My son used to jump like crazy and had so much fun. I am watching him run around in the yard now...he is 4 and his legs are fine!

My son did the same thing. I figured its good for strong legs. I think you just have to make sure its at the right height for him. I have never heard of jumparoo being harmful.

I have read that you should limit the time they spend in them to give their legs time to rest. Maybe only 30 minutes at a time.

You might adjust the settings higher where he can't get as much traction. The biggest harm it did for my son was walking. When it came time to work on walking, he wanted to jump. He loved his as well. My daughter, on the other hand, has delayed development. It has come in handy for strengthening her legs. She loves it as well.

Just don't give your son less tummy time as a result and try setting the settings higher so he has to work harder.

These are perfectly safe and will not cause any harm. These rigs have been around for close to 40+ years.....if they caused injuries to the baby - when used properly - they wouldn't still be on the market.

Ask your pedi. I'm sure anything done in excess can be harmful, but ask just to be on the safe side

We bought a jumperoo for our first & only son when he was 3 months old. He was born Oct 9th & I have a picture of him in his jumperoo dated Jan 12th with a big-o smile.
Our son is tall for his age so, when we put him in it and stuffed a blanket in the back to help support him, he was on his tippy toes and he loved it. I have to say, he had some lean muscled up legs from all the jumping he did in it. Sometimes in the evening, he would jump himself to sleep in also. I think it is one of the safest activity toy that you can have your child in while you have to be in the kitchen or doing domestic chores as long as you can keep your child in sight. Enjoy it!!

God Bless,
E.

I am not sure about these as my son did not have one. We had an Aquarium Swing and it was great. He was a huge baby so out grew it fast.
I also would worry about the neck as I have read that you need to avoid damaging the spine there. It was recently that I read this. I don't want to sound like a wet blanket. You may not hear about children who are injured in this way as it is not always immediaately noticable. You could always use one of those things that you put around the neck of babies when they fall asleep in their carseat to stop the head falling forward. I am a bit overprotective but feel that you should follow your gut instinct. It is better to not have regrets. If you are woried about it don't do it.

not silly at all, shaken baby syndrome can come from agressive play. wait a few months for him to get back in or ask your pedi. what the best age is. congrats on your baby.
