Just saying that word scares me. I had a cyst in my kidney since I was in my teens and the drs. said it wasn't anything and
i let it be. Recently a lump, which was also a cyst, was found in my breast. It was said to be benign, but i am now having pains in my underarm area going to my back. I want toknow why am i getting cysts and what can be done to prevent it, and a more thorough exam. I may sound paranoid, but believe me, I dont like going to hospitals, but I am more concerned now because i am a mom, and it scares me to think what if. I am thinkng of going to a DO instead of an MD doctor. Its an osteopathic doctor instead of an MD. Any experience with DO instead of MDs.? Any support or feedback.

What can I do next?

I know that many women can get fibrous tumors that are not cancerous in their breasts, but it needs to be examined to be sure that is what it is. I think that it is not uncommon for some people to get benign cysts. If the new lump is in your underarm, I would go back to you gyn - close enough to the breast to warrant a gyn exam and a mamogram. Good luck and try not too worry too much since you have had 2 previous benign cysts. but do have it evaluated to be certain.

Are you breastfeeding? If you are, my milk ducts caused a lot of the pain you described when I was using the pump.

If you are feeling a lump consistently, you need to go have a mammogram. They should be able to tell you what is causing the cyst.

I performed cat scans & mammograms for over 10 years and I can tell you that cysts are for the most part benign. Caffiene can irritate cysts and in turn they fill with fluid causing pressure & discomfort. Everyone gets them, but cutting down on caffeine will help. They used to say that if it hurts then it isn't cancer, but now there are a few types of breast cancer that do cause pain, however they usually come with other syptoms as well such as hardening of the breast, orange peel appearance, or redness & swelling. I have had a blocked sweat gland in my armpit & it hurt to move my arm. I soaked in a hot bath and massaged the area. Next day, area was obvious and I lanced it with a sterile pin. My powdered deoderant had built up & blocked it. I switched to gel kind after that. As for DO vs. MD's well MD's told me that the DO programs are cheaper & easier, DO's tell me that their study is more for body structure & movement. Most DO's will do adjustments to help your gait or balance kinda similar to a chiropractor. They tend to know more about bones, muscles, & joints etc.... I hope this helps you a little bit.

Sometimes you have to be pushy with doctors. They are afraid to operate on every cyst because it will clog up the operating rooms, so that's why they may dismiss it. I had something on my scalp that I was told was a cyst, but it kept growing bigger every year. I finally said, that's enough and told the doctor I didn't care if it was a cyst, I wanted it taken out. To make a long story short, it was a rare form of cancer and I had two surgeries to get rid of it. See a specialist, an ob or someone who can give you clear answers.

go to a gyno i had a lump in my breast before from drinking to much caffiene. They can tell by feeling on it if it breaks up it is from the caffiene. The breast feeding thing makes sense too. Don't panic till you go to gyno

Ok let me say first that I am a breast cancer survivor If you have a lump in your breast go and see a doctor. Especially if you are having pain of any kind associated with it. I understand the whole homeo pathic stuff. BUT do you really want to chance not being around for your childs life. There are many things that can cause a cyst. But when I went in with a lump I was told it is probably just a cyst. We will biopsy it and then probably just drain it. It was not a cyst it was breast cancer. 6 months of chemo 9 weeks of radiation and loss of a breast. I am still alive. I might not have been had I just went with the oh we think its just a cyst. Go get it checked out by a doctor who can do a biopsy. Sorry if that sounds like I am yelling. So many women die from breast cancer who could have lived had it been found in time. Mine went from stage 2 to past stage 3 in the space of 2 weeks. Breast cancer can grow at an alarmingly fast rate. It is not something to play around with. Get it checked out so your around for your babies future.
