Had a hot water heater disaster today and my hubby used several towels in the attic to stop the flow of water. They now have insulation on them. Is it safe to wash them or do I need to throw them out? Luckily, they are not the good towels!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I tossed them out! There were only a few of them and they weren't worth much. I will keep my eyes open for a good sale and just buy some new ones.

I would be extremely careful, as fiberglass insulation is just that, tiny particles of fiberglass that could stick in the towels. If they're not the good towels, I'd just toss them for safety's sake. Good luck with the water heater!

Put them in a tub with Ice cold water and then wash them in cold water. Cold and panty hose take out insulation.

They should wash up fine. If you want you can put them through twice.

I would through them out. When ever my husband works with our insulation he wears a disposable suit, and than the cloths he had under get washed separately and I rinse out the washer before the next load. That stuff can be hell on a child's skin.

I think you should throw them out. My husband is a plumber and sometimes comes home with insulation on his clothes and I have had to throw some of his shirts away because I am not able to get the tiny glass fibers out of them.

I would throw them away. The glass fibers are so small the chances of getting half of them out are very slim. If you have ever had them in your skin you know you do not want your family exposed to them. I would look for a realy good sale and stock up. I like to shop at TJMAXX in my area as they have good quilty linens at the best prices. But YES throw them out.

I would throw them out. Fiber glass has tiny fibers you can't be certain of removing. Better safe than sorry.
