Hi, I have a 5 month old and I was wondering if you can give a baby too many carbs from fruits and vegatables?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone, it is so nice to have other moms to get advice from. I called the Dr and they said not to worry, all is good. They are the ones that told me to start baby food and cereal at 4 months, 4 times a day. Thanks again.

I do know that if you give them to many carrots their skin turns a light shade of orange. My son loved carrots so i was giving it to him all the time but then the doctor told me why he looked like a umpa lumpa. That just my advice learn for other ppls mistakes.

At five months the BEST food for your baby, hands down, is breastmilk. This is undisputed, scientific fact. Ask your pediatrition.

If your milk has dried up, for whatever reason, using a breast pump several times a day will bring some back in for you. It could be an invaluable nutritional supplement.

The second best food for a 5 month old is formula. If you don't want to or cannot breastfeed, formula should be making up the bulk of your baby's diet.

There are no other foods commonly recommeded for a baby under 6 months. Other foods can cause allergies and other problems at this age.

After six months, you should feed your baby as varied a diet as possible, but still rely somewhat on breastmilk or formula. Remember that your child will be more adventurous in their eating later if you help widen their horizons now.

I wish you the best.

a quick call to the peditricians office will let you know that carb needs are MUCH DIFFERENT than adult carb needs. your 5 month old (whose primary diet should be breastmilk and formula at this point anyway - they don't recommend baby food until 6 months because of the proven affects it has on allergies later in life due to inability to properly digest these foods)shouldn't be eating fruits and veggies yet anyway, but when when he does, it'll be very hard to over-carb them! :)A.

I don't think so. If you are concerened about your child's weight just consult your pediatrition and they can tell you all that.

Anything is possible. That said, as long as the baby is getting formula (protein and fat) or breastmilk in reasonable quantities (you can look up to see what is recommended by age), unless the baby is eating fruit all day long (four or five jars), I wouldn't worry.

Vegetables have much less sugar than fruit, I wouldn't be concerned about them.
