So about 5 days ago I starting getting this sensation like someone was lighting a match under my skin on my left breast. It isn't warm to the touch though. I was already being treated for mastitis due to a few clots that took forever to clear up. I have also been battling a regular yeast infection.

I pump exclusively and the baby shows no signs of thrush. They prescribed me some nystatin cream but the burning is awful!! Is there anything I can do to help the burning?

I have tried the whole vinegar and water and I am sterilizing my pumping stuff. My nipples have become A LOT less painful since I started the cream but this burning is awful!

This is my third and final kid and he is only 6 weeks but it is making me want to quit BFing NOW!!

What can I do next?

Have you tried a different type of pump horn or a different size? Have you tried a different intensity? You might want to take your kit to an LC's office and ask to be measureed. I had to change to a different sized horn. because my skin was rubbing inside and making it raw.

And, I hate to say it, but if it continues after all that, you may want to ask your GYN for a referral to a breast specialist. My friend felt that something just "wasn't right" and ended up finding out she has inflammatory breast cancer. Bottom line, if it's not right, keep asking til you get answers.

I had a burning sensation in my left with my son. Holy cow, it hurt. It felt like I used a really strong pain cream. The doc did not find anything and sent me to LC. She found nothing and suggested pumping more. It did stop but the milk on that side pretty much tapered off to hardly anything. But he nursed until 2 yrs--a little formula but not much.

I had the burning sensation when I had thrush. Just because your baby doesn't show signs doesn't mean you don't have it. Please call your OB, because she can prescribe an oral anti-fungal (diflucan, which is totally safe to take while nursing).
