Broccoli Smell in Disposal
I put quite a lot of steamed brocolli in my disposal. Oh dear, my kitchen smells awful. I've tried lemon down the drain, but we are still overwhelmed with the smell. Any ideas?
Thanks,
A.
So What Happened?™
Thanks for all the great advice. First, I put a bunch of ice cubes in the drain. My neighbor said that it helps clean the underneath of the blade. Then, I did the baking soda and vinegar trick as I had that on hand. Then, I noticed the right side of my sink would not drain. This is not the disposal side. So, I plunged that side. (no Draino on hand either). Smell is gone! Thanks again.

How about soda? Did you use lemons or lemon juice? You may try a cut up potatoe too...hope it helps.

I am not sure if this would help, but I have seen disposal cleaners, like by jet dry, at walmart. Maybe it would help clean it out some. Good luck, I am sure that is not a fun smell! ~A.~

Baking soda mixed with vinegar and allowed to sit in the disposal for a few minutes should really help.

i would pour baking soda down the drain then follow it with vinegar, pour the vinegar slowly so that it can foam up for as long as possible. also run your disposal while you do it so that it also cleans out the disposal. also when you did the lemon did you cut it up in pieces then run the pieces through the disposal?

There is a u-shaped pipe under the sink that may need cleaning out. It worked for me and was easy to remove and replace. Good luck.

My husbands a plumber so i trust his advice on this one. Ice cubes dump alot of ice cubes in and grind them up, then fill sink basin with water and 1/4 cup of bleach (do this to both sides) pull the drains at the same time. He says to do this every night till smell is gone. He told me exactly what to do for your situation. good luck.
