Hello Mamas,

I have a Medala Pump In Style that I got when my son was born nearly 4 years ago. He had medical issues so I pumped exclusively for one year! Now we are expecting #2 and I just checked to see if the pump still turns on...it seems fine but I didn't try to pump or anything (no need for preterm labor!).

My question is: is it okay to re-use my own pump? Should I buy new tubing for it?

Thanks for your advice. C.

What can I do next?

It should be just fine. You can sterilize the tubing that you have using the medela steam bags (which are awesome btw!). The steam bags really are an amazing time saver. The biggest reason they tell the consumer they are a one owner product is it could potentially be a liability issue for them but the chance of cross contamination is very minute.

You can use the same pump and even the same tubing. I learned (eww this is awful but I learned that since I would have to pump in the hospital (inverted nipples) that I would get all new tubing at the hospital). Good luck and WAY TO GO MOMMA FOR MAKING THE CHOICE TO BF!

Absolutely you can reuse the pump! I would probably buy new tubing just to be safe, but that's just me. It isn't that expensive. If you want to reuse, just sterilize everything again and you should be fine. I used those steam bags for my tubing, shields, and valves and they worked great.

I think the only thing you need to do is buy some new tubing. I even used a Breast Pump that belonged to my Sister-in-law...just bought new tubing. It worked out just fine! Good luck!

I have used mine for 2 children for about a year each (ages 4 and 2 now) and plan to use it again for baby # 3 (on the way). I did buy extra tubing and I actually needed to buy a new transformer in the middle of baby #2 (the plug to plug into the wall). I "pump fed" baby #1 for 6 of the months. When baby #2 was 3 month I started to get less pressure when pumping where it felt like it wasn't working anymore. Once I bought the new transformer it worked like new! Here is where I started, but I think I bought the stuff through amazon for faster shipping. www.medelabreastfeedingus.com

You can re-use your own pump. No need for extra tubing unless the ends of the original tubing are stretched out and might fall off while in use.

I dont see why it wouldnt hurt by reusing your own pump,it doesnt hurt either by buying new tubing, if you continue to reuse pump just make sure its sanitary and ready to use for the new baby.
