Breast Fed Baby Refuses Breast in Evening and on Weekends but Not at Night
edited My daughter works full time and pumps so that her baby will have mostly breastmilk. Baby refuses breast in the evening and on the week ends now that she's getting bottle fed during week days. But she will breast feed during the night. Any ideas on how to get her interested in the breast again?
So What Happened?™
Thank you for your responses. My daughter is trying them. I'm going to look for the Playtex slow flow nipples so that she can try that.
I babysat last night and she took 4 1/2 oz. bottle fed an hour after she refused her Mom's breast. I think she may not have been hungry when her Mom tried to feed her. Her Mom's schedule may not mesh with her day time schedule.

I agree with everyone else that no bottles with mom is the way to go but also look at what bottle is being used during the week. I highly recommend the Playtex nurser with the latex (brown) slow flow nipple. That is very similar to the breast and nursing. With a slow flow nipple baby will have to work for the milk and the latex nipple is super soft like mom's nipple.
Those bottles were my life-saver when I was trying to work backwards and get my son from the hospital bottles that he was used to in the NICU to strictly nursing. They were what I used in the middle to help get him used to a different, softer nipple and a different way of getting milk.

As hard as it may be for her (your daughter) she needs to cut out all bottles when she's at home with her child. NO BOTTLES when Mommy is home. It may take a full day or two... but baby will realize it's breastfeeding with Mommy and bottles when Mommy isn't there. Bottles are such instant gratification that too many babies get nipple confusion and prefer the steady drip with no work to do vs the active need to work at suckling while breastfeeding. Her baby will be cranky about it for about a day - but your daughter needs to remain consistent until the baby realizes Mommy = breastfeeding and No Mommy = bottle time.

Try giving her an ounce from the bottle and then breastfeeding her. It might just be that she's starving and wants it faster than she can get it from mom. Once she's got a bit of milk in her tummy, she might be fine. Then she might get used to nursing again during those times...

I agree, no bottles when mom is available. Also, children go through times when they are easily distracted. So, quite place to feed. She could also try walking / standing while feeding. Then sit once things get going.
Good luck to your daughter.
