Birth Control Question - Grovetown,GA

My doctor put me on the NuvaRing birth control. I haven't heard much about it. Is anyone else using it? If so, does it work? Are there any side effects like weight gain or irregular bleeding? I have read up a little about it online, but I would like to hear from people that have personal experience with it.

What can I do next?

What about an IUD instead? It's not hormonal and does not have any of the side effects. You get one inserted and you do not worry about it for 5 years. You can easily get it removed when you are ready to have another child. It has about a 5% chance of pregnancy, but no birth control is 100% unless you combine more than one method.

I went on the NuvaRing after I had my daughter last year and absolutley loved it. Unfortunately, I have migraines and had to come off of it because the estrogen made them worse. So, I am back on a non-estrogen bc pill now, but would much rather be on the NuvaRing if I could.

I haven't ever been on the NuvaRing, but my sister has. She got on it shortly after she had her son (who is now 7 months old). At first, she thought it was a good form of birth control, but shortly after being on it for a month she started spotting. She spotted for like 2 months straight. Her periods were heavy also, which she never had a problem with that before. Her doctor told her that the spotting was normal and that it should stop. Well to make a long story short, the spotting never stopped. After being on it for 4 months, she finally got off of it. It didn't work for her, but I've heard other woman who love it. I guess you just have to experience it yourself and see how your body reacts to it. I wish you luck!

I used NUvaring for about a year, and it worked great. It is easy to use and had very few side effects with me. It helped control cramping better than almost anything else I have tried, and believe me I have tried just about all of them. The only bad thing was, despite what the pamplets and doctors tell you, you can sometimes feel it during sexual intercourse. My husband said it was very annoying to him and even made him sore from rubbing against it. He claimed to feel it everytime we had sex. I felt it at times too and it was a little irritating. That is why I eventually gave it up. I tried moving it higher at my doctor's recommendation, but somehow it just kept getting in the way. Otherwise, it would have been the perfect birth control. Hope you have a good experience with it.

Hi J., I used it for 1 1/2 years and I loved it. My periods were regular and not too heavy. You can add a reminder to your computer and it will tell you when to take it out and put it in. It was so easy and I loved not having to think about it everyday. I had no problem with it staying in. I would definilty recommend it to others.

HA HA- There is a method that if you put an asprin between your knees, that works great. Seriously, I think all bc has a draw back- usually in the woman's disfavor. My approach has been to just not have intercourse. I am so frightened of getting pregnant again that I have decided to wait until I am with a man who has a vasectomy-(how wonderful if that came up on the first date)!! or has the same ideas about children as I do- That I will go thru with pregnancy if it should happen and that he would not run! Good luck finding the right bc. If you have any great solutions, please....let me know. I highly suggest finding ways to reach pleasure without intercourse. It's been 2 years since my divorce and I find that not fearing missing a period after sex has been better than sex!

Hi J.. I have not used this ,but my friend was on it and now it 5 months pregnant. She was still on this when it happened.

I used it before having my second son, I really liked it! The periods were great, you can leave it in a little longer to reduce the number of periods, ask you doctor about it.

The only downside to it was it could fall out during sex, so I would remove it and then reinsert it after sex, the only downside to that is exposure to air and possible bacteria. I never had that problem and used it for about 2 years!

Good Luck
