Best Elementary School for Daughters

I am an airforce wife stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. We will be moving to Charleston Mid March 2008. I am trying to learn the area prior to moving, because I have three daughters (pre-K, 2nd & 5th grade). Any suggestions on elementary schools to attend, or NOT to attend?? Thank you!

What can I do next?

I am a teacher and have taught in both Dorchester and Berkeley Counties. Either of those school districts are wonderful STAY AWAY from Charleston County school district. They have a really bad reputation. If you have any other questions feel free to email me directly. ____@____.com

Good Morning,

I am a mother of three boys and have worked with all the schools within the area. I would have to say that Summerville is a really great area to go to school. Living here is a little cheaper than Mt. Pleasant or West Ashley but I would say do not live in Charleston County because the schools are not really great. I have some really good information but would only like to give it privatly because of who I worked for so if you would like more information please feel free to e-mail myself.

The schools in Mt. Pleasant are great. My daughter will be a 5th grader at James B. Edwards this fall and has thoroughly enjoyed attending the school. STAY AWAY from the majority of the North Charleston schools in Charleston County. Summerville and West Ashley also have good schools, just be careful b/c the areas are big and do have some less than stellar choices. Try checking out this website http://ed.sc.gov/topics/assessment/scores/ for more information.

Good luck.

Dorchester District II is (supposedly) the best in the area...I hear that Fort Dorchester Elementary is a great little school (only a couple of years old) and close to the air base...also, they have a brand new middle school that they are building for it which should be done this year...not sure what the name for that is...

For the best schools in the Charleston area you would want to be in the Summerville area. We have the best schools, best teachers and best community around.

Most of the School in Summerville area are pretty good. My children go to Fort Dorchester Elementary and very satisfy with the school. There is 2 new elementary schools open this fall, both in Dorchester II district.
