Hi guys!! Ok, it seems to be that bees have taken over my home. there are at least 3 nests close to one location and i'm sure more around the perimeter. I have a 5 month old and don't want to risk them getting in the home. We have a fireplace and that concerns me. Any ideas on pest control that is not through the roof price-wise?? Thanks so much!

So What Happened?

There are actual nests on the 2nd story of our home everywhere.. and I don't know what kind of "bee" it is.. so I don't know if they are "good" or "bad".. but they sting nonetheless.. my dog is highly allergic and I dont want to find out if my baby is..

The city will send a pest control worker out and they'll seal the hives. I had this done once and they really came fast - within a couple of days and did the job well.

Where I live, you can NOT exterminate them, but would have to call out a bee keeper to have them removed.

I HIGHLY recommend Family Pest Control. They give free estimates and are very reasonable in price. I also trust them.

In another state I had a large beehive growing in a holly tree and a neighbor told me her husband would take care of it one night...but during the day....I put the sprinklers on and the hive fell off and was gone! My problem was solved...it was easy and no one was really near to be stung...good luck.

Please do not call an exterminator. There is a guy in Conroe you can call who will come and safely remove them to a country location or a beekeeper who will give them a new home. Carlos Madruga ###-###-####. (Probably others as well if you search the net.) Bees are our friends and we need to protect them whenever possible. They are in decline, and without them our food supply will be quite limited and boring, no fruits, no veggies except root crops.

A close friend of ours is a beekeeper and also removes bees. I would give him a call and see what he suggests.

His name is Richard Price: ###-###-####

Hope that works.

Hi get in touch with the Texas Department of Agriculture @ ###-###-#### and tell them you'd like some information as to finding out what type they are, how to safely get rid of them yourself or find someone who will do this for you; does this person have to be licensed etc.

In the meantime, you might also want to read up on the following links.

My husband is a beekeeper. He said the suggestion to spray soapy water is a good one, but recommends that you go to texasbeekeepers.org to get contact info for a beekeeper in your area. We are in the Houston area.

Hi J.-

I would get a professional extermination company out there first to resolve the number of nests (and keep any mopre from beginning) as I think it could be dangerous for you to handle this initially by yourself.

My husband worked for a spa out in the country and they used Pine Sol in a lot of locations that the bees seemed to want to set up, and it worked as a great repellant. Bees for some reason DO NOT like the smell of pine products.

So once you have them cleared away, maybe regularly douse the are with Pine Sol to help deter them from returning. The exterminator may also have good ideas or chemical treatments that are safe for pets/children to share with you.

But I would act sooner than later. Bees build hives very quickly. They are territorial too, so the more hives, the more danger in numbers to you and your family.

I would call your county and see if they have anyone who can take care of the bees.

In our experience of having bees in our neighborhood and in the trees...the vector control says to use soapy water. Have your husbanb or a friend use a sprayer with the hose and put dishwashing liquid or similar in the container and spray the nests with it. The bees will drop to the ground. If there is a big swarm you should be able to call vector control where you live and explain you have a baby and that you are concerned and they should come out to take care of it.

I had a bee hive move into my kitchen wall in April. I noticed it immediately and had a bee keeper come out. Bees can build huge honey combs in your walls. I suggest that you call a bee keeper immediately. Don't try spraying a bee hive as there are usually thousands of bees in one and a keeper doesn't want a poisoned hive. Good luck, M.

Call the Bug Reaper, Tony will take care of you. Great guy.

As for the fireplace. Oiy... When we bought this house I had yellow jackets everywhere. They loved the fireplace. I had to tape garbage bags over the opening and bug bomb it! Then have fires in the fireplace. I got stung and I worried my kids and pets would too. Seriously, the Bug Reaper is a great service. If you sign a contract with him, Ithink I spent 400$ for the year, he will come out quarterly and comes back any time you have an issue. I think that 400$ was more than the annual contract since I have wasps and he comes over to clean up nests as needed.

Morning J.;

You do not want to exterminate them!! Period! Bee's have been
dissapearing and what you need to do is call a professional
bee raiser. Many of them will come and take the bees to increase their crop at no cost to you.
Call the Texas Ag. Dept., they have an office near 410 and IH10.
Good Luck,
