I just hired a babysitter who wants me to pay her what I feel is appropriate. This is the first one I've ever hired and have no idea what the going rates are????

What can I do next?

I have a 12 yr old girl. I pay $10 an hour with a guarantee that the sitter will go home with at least $40. For instance... if we are out and end up coming home in 2 hrs or so, she still gets $40. Same thing if I have booked a sitter and our plans change, I deliver $40 to her. Hubby and I go out at least 1 weekend night and the sitters that stay here go home with $60 (cash) unless we are out past 12:30 and I start increasing the rate. Normal times for us is 7:30pm-12:30am

Hope that helps.

I pay $5 per hour per child. We have 2, so I pay $10 an hour.

For me, it depends on the age and experience of the sitter. We have one sitter who is a young teenager in high school and we only pay her $7 per hour because we have to pick her up and take her home. Her sister, however, is in her 20's and has her own car...we pay her $10 per hour. The going rate for daycare workers at most facilities is about $10 per hour, depending on their experience or degree and they are taking care of several kids all day long.

I go by what I expect them to do and if the drive- then we agree on a price for the event-
Example, I paid a sitter $20.00 to drive over stay for 2 hours and get 3 of my kiddos in bed. No dinner to make, no baths, no homework.
Another time we paid the same girl $40.00 for 2.5 hours, but she fed them dinner ( a casserole I had made), did baths for 3 (#4 is pretty self sufficient) and played with them.
I have one girl I pay $5.00 just to go to the MD's office w/ me and play w/ whichever kids aren't getting seen.

I don't know if that is much help....hope so!

Have Fun!

I usually charge anywhere from 10-15 an hour depending on how many children you have

$60 for a night out seems VERY high to me. A minimum of $40.00 for two hours sounds high too. I generally swap babysitting with my neighbor but on the occasions that we do hire a sitter I ask them to set the rate. If it's not within your budget you can look for someone else.
