My oldest is going to be three in January we still have a video monitor in his room. We are expecting our second in February. Well yeasterday we had a brief power outage and it fried the camera unit in my LOs room. At what age did you take the monitor out of your kids rooms? We were going to get a second one for baby #2 anyway but since this one went out do you all think I still need one in our older son's room or just the baby's room?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks mammas. I think since this one is fried we will just get a new one for the baby's room only. The way our house is set up it can be difficult to hear when they wake up so we did use it a lot when he was a baby.

congrats with baby number two. we have a almost four year old and a almost two year old. they used the monitor for the first year and perhaps a few months after that. i also avoided having two monitors at once because i heard they interfear with each other. i would not put a monitor in your sons room. i would be very supprized if he still is waking at night!

We personally never used ours. Once they cried loud enough we heard them. Well..I take that back. We used it only when we went outside when the baby was sleeping..didn't want them crying THAT loud for us to be able to hear them.

I guess my opinion would be to move it to the baby's room..I don't think you need one for a 3 year old.

Good luck and best wishes with #2...how exciting!!

I guess it depends on if he wakes up a lot at night and cries or whatever. If so, I would feel better still having it. If not, then I would let it go and just get one for the baby's room. I had a double monitor so I didn't have to carry it from room to room. I had one in the kitchen and one in the livingroom. Good luck!

I have never understood the video monitors. Heck I didn't use the baby monitor. I guess I have loud kids.

I would ask yourself do you use it? I mean if it is just there and well here is the monitor but we haven't looked at it in two years then you have your answer.

I could sleep through anything except a crying baby or one making sounds. I never had a monitor but if you have two floors and are down when they are up, like during the day, it would be nice to have. Otherwise I wouldn't bother for a 2 or 3 year old. You may feel more comfortable with one for the new baby but I would guess you will hear the baby fine.

We rarely use ours - mostly in the summer when we are outside and baby is sleeping inside. We never use it at night tho.

Congrats on baby

We took the monitor out of my son's room the first night we brought him home from the hospital. He woke up, cried and DH and I almost jumped through the roof. We realized that infants are perfectly well adapted to wake their parents when necessary. And that was the end of the monitor - at least it was a shower gift.
