Are Gdiaers Any Good?

Hi, moms. I had my baby last friday and he already has a mild diaper rash despite me changing him on average every 2 hours. I've heard about gdiapers, they don't have any plastic and are supposed to let the skin breath easier and be better than usual diapers.
I'm wondering if anybody tried them. Are they really worth it?

What can I do next?

Hello E.,
I used g diapers for almost a year, but the expense became too much. They work great, the inserts are effective, although you do have to handle a little poop every now and then.
I switched to cloth diapers that I made, and it was easier on my son's skin, and on the wallet.
You could use the little g pants and cloth inserts to make it more economical.
They make a really great product, it works really well.My son's skin wasn't any better or worse with g diapers.
I personally prefer cloth, but I have nothing but love for g diapers.

G-Diapers are great if you can afford them...but you didn't say if you were already using some sort of cloth or disposable--it could be a detergent residue issue or chemicals on disposables.

We are veterans of both schools and, as far as disposables go, we could only use name brands early on. Pampers Swaddlers worked so great that I reconsidered the effort of cloth. Unfortunately, once I went back to work, it was cloth or breastfeeding...the milk won out.

Store brand diapers (HEB, Wal-Mart) were disasters...I could almost count the minutes to the rash after putting one on my daughter.

E.,
Congratulations on your new baby boy!!
My sister used GDiapers and loved them! They are such a great concept...the ease of a disposable and they put the poop where it is supposed to go...in the toilet, not in the trash!!
The downside to them...and the reason I don't use them...is how costly they are. My sister only used them for a month because she could not afford them. If you can afford them, give them a try! If you plan on having more babies in the future you may want to consider cloth diapers. They are not as scary as everyone thinks!! We use Fuzzibunz and Burt's Bees diaper rash cream (which is AWESOME) and her butt is like porcelain! If you go cloth, you can not use conventional diaper rash creams with fleece diapers like Fuzzibunz. If you are interested in cloth and have any questions, feel free to contact me! We have made every mistake possible with cloth diapers and could now quite possibly write a book on cloth diapering!
If you still want to go with disposable there are at least three different, affordable brands out right now that are chlorine free and a little bit more environmentally and baby butt friendly than the standard diapers.
Good luck to you! Again, if you have questions, let me know!

Hi,

I am a senior midwife student and the birth center I am currently apprenticing at has a great little store in it called Full Circle Baby. They also sell their products online here: http://www.fullcirclebaby.com/catalog.php?category=4. They have diaper rash cream called Baby Bottom Butter. It is all natural and works great.

Take Care,
L.

Hi E.,

Before you spend money on gdiapers, try Dr. Smith's Diaper Ointment. I was about to use gdiapers myself until my pediatrician suggested this ointment. She told me that it seems to work overnight, and I'm thinking to myself, 'SURE IT DOES' To my surprise, she was right! There was a significant difference the next morning. It contains 10% Zinc Oxide. Also: Beeswax,Lanolin, Mineral Oil, Olive Oil, Paraffin Wax, Petrolatum,Purified Water, and Thymol Iodide. You can get it at Walgreens and I believe Target. I slathered the ointment on after every diaper change and the diaper rash was gone in 3 days. Try it out and good luck! L.
