I am on the hunt for new applainces for our soon to be new house, we need a fridge and stove and WOW the selection out there is extreme. Any suggestions, We are trying to stay at around 700-800 before taxes on both items, less is ok also of course. Anyhow, we want side by side fridges with water/ice. and then the glass top stove but other then that we don't really seem to be picky. I hear convection is the way to go on stoves, and really the fridges all seem to be the same to me other then shelving quality seems to get better the more you spend. So anything we should know, wish you new. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh my dream would be the double oven, but I think that is out of our price range. And we would love a counter depth fridge but those are $$ so I think we will have to live without

What can I do next?

Let us know what you decide. I'm in the market for a new fridge too. People on this website convinced me to look for a French door model. I will get white, not stainless. I am also confused about brand and ice/water. My husband wants the external ice/water, but I've heard they break down a lot. A friend of mine just got a new stove with the lighter colored glass top and she HATES it. She wishes she had her dark colored one back. She looked into a double oven, but then you have to give up the storage drawer. I am going to review Consumer Reports, which did a recent big report and write up on refrigerators.

When we built in 2000, we put in supposedly top of the line GE Profile. Boy did they SUCK.. Everything has been replaced.

Within 3 yrs, we replaced the dishwasher with a high end Maytag and it SUCKED.. it was dead within 3 yrs. We had a top of the line Maytag fridge and it DIED as well within 5 yrs!!

In the end, I have upgraded everything to the higher end Kitchen Aid and I LOVE them all. Cooktop, oven, fridge, dishwasher. My new Kitchen Aid fridge does not have all the sizzle the Maytag does but has been great.

Just closely check the products.... a lot of sizzle does not mean it is a great steak.

I would highly recommend that you get a french door fridge, they are awesome and seem to hold so much more food! We just bought all new LG appliances a year ago, and I must say I am disappointed in them (except for the style of the fridge). Also, I'm finding that stainless steel is SO hard to keep clean, plus I hate the fact that magnets don't stick to my fridge door :-(

I have a Kenmore refrig w/freezer on the bottom and a Kenmore glass top electric stove/oven which is also convection.

No complaints with the refrig.

As far as the stove top, if you go with glass, make sure you get a black surface. I'm find the black difficult to keep clean, my friend had a white and it took a lot of constant scrubbing to keep it looking clean. What I don't like is that that 2 large burners and in the front, and 2 small in the back. I find that I use the smaller burner much more frequently. I love the fact that one of the large burners has the option to become extra large, which is great when I make a large pot of soup or stew. I don't use the convection very often, it's very loud.

Have fun shopping.

I have a Maytag side by side fridge that works fine. It's 5 years old. I bought the largest one that I could since they hold less food than a conventional fridge for the same space. The water/ice take up a lot of room.
I have a ge glass top cooktop that I love. It is black and I purposely didn't buy the model with stainless trim so it would be easy to clean. I keep a razor blade handy to scrap off spills and use ceramic cleaner. It's 7 years old and works fine.
I have a maytag wall oven that is 2 or 3 years old and it also works fine. I do wish that I had spent a little more and bought a convection one.
My dishwasher is Bosch and after 8 years it is starting to squeak a little. The dishes come out clean as always.

We love our GE Profile gas stove/oven. It's got just enough features to keep us happy as we both love to cook and cook often. I'm not such a fan of our Kennmore refrigerator. It's a side-by-side. Next time I'd get a bottom mount.

Before you buy, be sure to go on line and read the consumer product reviews. You will find that some refrigerators work great but are noisy, or are slow to produce ice. We have a Kenmore french door fridge that we really like. We also have a convection oven that I am not wild about. I miss my double oven gas model in our last home.

I haven't read the answers given to you. However, Brand is a big thing to me, as it was to my FIL, He thought LG was the way to go... he was SOOO wrong! The warranty stated wasn't upheld! (by LG no less) and other than taking them to court over an appliance it wasn't worth it! BTW it wasn't just one appliance it was most of his kitchen appliances that had issues within the alloted warranty time period. NOT GOOD!
