Looking for a Good Stove

Hello everyone,

I am shopping for a new stove. Very excited about it, we have had this one 10, it came it the house and who knows how long before that. Any way, I would like to try one of those flat top ones with no coils. Want I really want is a double oven stainless steel one but I am looking more for something in the $600 range :) Anyway I have seen a Maytag one that seems to be nice. Does anyone have a stove that they just love you can tell me about? Appliances are so hard to decide on I dont want to just jump in and buy the affordable one if its gonna suck :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks again everyone

We went yesterday and we looked at the Maytag one but it seems very weak, the door was really light and didnt seem to really close. So we went alittle more expensive and got a GE Adore....It gets delivered on Wednesday! The fridge is still breathing but we may have to unplug it. Hopefully not till after Christmas :)

I don't know anything about stoves, but I just had someone out to work on my dryer and he told me Maytag went out of buisness last year and anything with the name on it is leftover inventory. He said the past few years of Maytag appliances are built poorly. Just thought you would want toknow...

Hello!
Our house came with a Maytag glass top stove and I love it for the ease of use and for the ease of cleaning. It also has a drawer on the bottom for the cookie sheets etc. which I missed with the stoves we had before in other places.
If you live in the Phoenix area, have a look at the Sears outlet store in the Arizona Mills Mall. They sell returns etc. For consumer comparisons I often check epinions.com where users post their experiences with the items.
Have fun shopping!

If you live in Denver, there is a similar place to the one that the poster from Albequrque (sorry for botching the spelling there). There is a Sears place off 6th on the west side of town with store floor models, dented models, etc. We have been very happy with all the appliances we've purchased there!

Do you live in Albuquerque? If so, go to "Appliance Liquidators" we just replaced ALL the appliances in our kitchen from there. We got a side by side fridge with ice & water in the door, a HUGE gas oven, over the stove microwave and an AWESOME dishwasher that lets you wash just the top or bottom rack so if you don't have a full load you can run it.
my appliances aren't all the same brand, but we saved over $400 on the fridge cuz it had a dent in the back (who will EVER see that) and saved about $500 on the stove... it had a dent on the top. The other ones had no dents or scratches. This place gets floor modles from other stores or dented and scratched stuff from the manufacturer and sells them at a GREAT price! At least go check them out before you buy

Hi Serena,

We have the Jenn-Air brand stove/oven combo. Maytag and Jenn-Air come from the same company. We love our stove, although it is not a flat top (I did have one in my last house), it is gas. I'm sure you can get this in a flat top style, but the reason I mention it is because I have the double oven. The bottom oven is standard size and the top is a smaller size, but perfect for cooking a casserole or broiling.

Hope that helps.

I have the double Maytag Gemini and LOVE it. I had the gas but when we moved to AZ our home had no gas line and the company wanted 3500 to put in the line. So I saved money and purchased the Gemini electric Double oven as a replacement, yes the stainless steel. It's a great buy and a great oven. I have a REALLY great cleaner that takes off EVERYTHING from the cook top. The only Issue I have had is once I had a spill over (A REALLY BIG ONE) It's a pain but It happens on any oven. I totaly recomend this oven having used 2 of them. I do miss cooking with gas but for a freestanding oven this is great. The only other double I know of is a wall unit or the Samsung??? (I think) it's an oven with a microwave drawer on top.

I bought a GE, but the reason I purchsed this brand was because I wanted to keep the same name products in my kitchen Fridge and dishwasher are GE so I didn't want to change appliances half way through. I have been very happy with my GE stove, it is like the one that you are talking about, the flat top, I love it!!!!! It's a lot easier to keep clean then trying to keep the burners cleaned! I was like you I didn't know anything about the stoves so we went to Sears where they offer a wide variety of stoves and I picked 2 or 3 out that I liked and then I asked the salesmaen to explain the difference in them, so I took what I wanted and thought that I needed and ended up with a pretty good one. Or at least I think so! :) It has to be up to you, how much cooking do you do, are you cooking for a large family, do you like to bake? So many different things to look at when you are buying, my advice for you is don't go with the cheapest and don't go with the most expensive, we went with a happy medium, if that makes any sense to you? After shopping at Sears and I found the one that I liked we went to Spencer's and purchased our stove, a little bit cheaper and the help was great! I do know that you will pay a lot more for stainless steel and for a double oven but these are questions you need to ask the salesmen! If you have any more questions I would be happy to try and help you out, just email me ok! Have a good day!

Check out Consumer Reports (at the library). They usually will give you an idea of the best models - for the price (the most expensive ones are not always the best!). I just replaced my refrigerator doing that. Also - Whirlpool makes Kenmore (just FYI). We checked out a scratch & dent & got $200 savings on a dishwasher, but ended up with Sears for the refrigerator. Good Luck (hopefully stuff like this doesn't come in 3's - knock on wood)!!
