Anyone Else's Babies NEVER Get Diaper Rash?

I see sooo many posts about diaper rash, but I guess my kids are lucky and haven't suffered through them.

2 exceptions-when my oldest was a baby my MIL "cared for" him twice a week while I was working and was not very good about timely diaper changes. He got 2 minor ones while in her "care," but that was it (I use quotes because I know my MIL and know that she would rather obsess over what she was going to make for dinner than to change a diaper.)--separate mini-rant...sorry

The other exception--my youngest was wearing cloth diapers and I didn't know about having to "strip" them, so he got a minor rash but never again since I learned that CDs need to be stripped.

ETA: sorry...got pulled away before finishing my question....

So, for those of you who also have not had kids' with diaper rash, what preventative measures have you taken (if any) to protect against them? For me, it has been enough to just put a small dolop of Desitin on the area by the anus before bedtime, or before putting on a diaper that I know won't be able to be changed for at least 4 hrs. I am not hyper-vigilant about diaper changes (unless they are cloth--then I change them every 2 hrs).

What can I do next?

I think some babies are prone to it, and others are not. My 1st had (and has) very sensitive skin and we fought diaper rash constantly. My 2nd never gets it. And, I don't do anything preventatively for my 2nd. I don't even bother with any kind of lotion after a bath or any other time. Every now and then if I see a tiny bit of redness on his bottom, I'll put on a little vaseline. That's it. He just doesn't have the sensitive skin that his brother has.

As with so many things with babies, they are just all different, and what you get is the luck of the draw, I think.

My 1 yo baby girl has never had diaper rash. We have used Flanders Buttocks Ointment from day one, just a little pea sized amount at night. We also use this for other rashes (under her neck, behind her ears, etc) and it takes care of it in a day. Awesome stuff.

My 1st son always got horrible diaper rash. We would have to get RX ointment for it. 2nd 2 kids never got diaper rash & I admit to not being that commited to scheduled diaper changes, especially by the 3rd. The only difference is that the 2nd two were breastfed, 1st all formula. I don't know if that has anything to do with it but only difference I can think of. Oh, & 2nd two were given mostly organic food. Who knows, maybe those things have nothing to do with it and 1st kid was just more prone to diaper rash.

My babies never have diaper rash unless they're on an antibiotic that's way too harsh on their system and they have TERRIBLE diarrhea, and even then, it's there for a day and gone.

Preventative measures? Change their diapers regularly, and keep them clean. That's it. No cream, no lotion, no powder...just a clean, dry butt. :)

I don't think preventative measures are needed, other than changing them regularly. The only time I ever used ointment was if there was a rash, and those are so rare. Usually it's something they ate or the diaper was rubbing them funny. Sometimes it's related to antibiotics or diarrhea. Other than that, just keep up clean. Ointments are overused. Clean & dry = happy baby :-)

My son never had diaper rash, ever, and he is almost four. I was a professional nanny for twenty years and used so many ointments and old wives tricks. here is what I learned...not all ointments work the same for every child and some kids seem more prone to dash rash than others. I have read a lot of diaper rash and when I became a mother I did two things to help prevent diaper rash...one I had three different diaper brands that I use every day and two I always made sure my son bottom was super dry after a bath or diaper change. Sometimes I would blow on his bottom, wave my hand or even let him be diaper free for a few minutes. For him it worked. I never use ointment of any kind to prevent it. If I put baby lotion on my son I would put some on his tush, but yet I would still wait until it was dry before I put a diaper on him. That is what worked for us. Good luck!

My son is 20m and has never had diaper rash. I always wipe him off with a wet cloth or wipe and put just a sprinkle of powder on him. Before bed I also put Desitin on his booty. I don't know if this has saved him from the rash or if we just got lucky.

Mine is 8 now, but I can honestly say he never had a "significant" case of diaper rash. I STILL have his original (almost unused) tube of A&D ointment!
I just think it was a combination of not letting him be in a dirty diaper and a stomach of iron--the kid eats EVERYTHING! LOL

I'm sure skin sensitivity plays into it. Mine never gets a rash either. His diaper is changed every two hours at daycare, and at home, whenever I notice he's wet. Not like one pee wet, but a few pees. I powder him if it's a really hot day and put cream on him if I have to work pretty hard to wipe off a BM. Other than that - really don't do anything special to prevent it, I think it's just the luck of the draw for him.

My twins never really had any diaper rash issues...until last week. Now they have been cursed with the mother of all diaper rashes. I usually just lather them up with A&D & up until last week it worked.

All Three of my Bio children ( I say that because my husband has 7 and I have 3 ) Never had a diaper rash. I believe it was because I changed them immediately after a wetting a diaper or soiling it.

Neither of my children ever had a problem. We've had a little chafing a few times. I always use A&D Ointment anytime there's an issue. I used to slather on Desitin super thick when the were infants and it looked like any problems were starting. They both wore disposabke Kroger and Target brand diapers and pull ups.

I hope you no longer have babies cause Murphy and his laws are going to get you big time! :p

My kids got diaper rashes but mostly because I will let them eat whatever they want. Sometimes that didn't do well on the back end. :( Meh, at least my kids will still eat anything.

Yup, my little boy has only had one- other than during a stomach bug a few months ago- we tried new diapers that we had a coupon for, but he had a HUGE reaction to. Poor guy. His rash after one night in the diapers was so bad it was bleeding a little. But other that those two times- he has a clear little heiny. We've always shmeared his rear with A and D ointment before bed. We found out early on that it helped him sleep longer in the morning and we just kept it up. He's going to be two in Oct.

My daughter got terrible diaper rash mostly when she was teething, but my son never had one case of ti. I think it really does depend on how sensitive their skin us and being good about changing poopy diapers promptly.

I had 2 babysitters who let my daughter sleep in a poopy diaper for 2 + hours and she woke up scalded. They would lay her down and let her cry for nap, without checking to see if she pooped. I know this because once she was out of childcare, I noticed that she would cry for 10 minutes and not a second longer, unless she pooped.... then she's cry longer. I'd always go in after 10 minutes and change her and she's go right to sleep. She's 7 1/2 now and it still frys my bacon when I think about it.

My kids RARELY have them. I can count on one hand the number we've had in our house, between the 2 kids.

I do nothing at all preventative. Plain diapers, normal changing schedule - every 2-3 hrs unless they're dirty.

I think we're just lucky in that my kids don't have sensitive skin.

My daughter got bad rashes all the time and very little helped make it better, though some things like strawberries and orange juice made it worse. My son only gets a rash when we wait too long to strip the diapers, or when we give him too much formula (he's mostly BF). I think a lot of it just depends on the particular kid. Now we know my daughter gets dry patchy skin if she eats or drinks dairy, so I do wonder if that was a huge contributor to her diaper rash.
