Anyone Else Had This Happen When Switching from Regular Formula to Soy....

This is kinda gross so I apologize in advance but here goes....I recently switched from regular formula to soy in an attempt to solve an eczema issue we were having with my baby. He's been on the soy for about 5 weeks now. Thankfully, the switch seemed to help his skin tremendously & since I'm still bf 1-2 times a day I've also cut milk out of my diet. So here's the gross part....Since he's been on the soy formula, his poopy diapers are SO stinky I literally have to hold my breath when changing him. I mean, when I walk into his room, I can smell if he's got a dirty diaper from 10 feet away, no joke! Has anyone else had this happen on soy. Not sure if it matters but he is now on Similac Isomil Advance Soy. Also, my older son was on soy when he was a baby & his diapers were nothing like this. Thanks in advance ladies, you always have such great replies!

What can I do next?

That happened to my son on Enfamil's soy. When I switched him to Earth's Best Organic Soy, that helped a lot. The formula itself didnt smell as bad and his bm's didn't smell as bad either. Good luck!

Is your babies poop really running and is he gassy. He is probably allergic or intolerant to soy. Sucks, Iknow. Good luck.

Soy, by its nature, is very hard to digest, and therefore can cause digestive issues and stinky poops! Especially because you have a boy, I would really look into the pros and cons of soy. We all pretty much know the touted pros, so here are some of the cons:

http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/index.html (see Soy and Children)

Hopefully he'll adjust to it and it will get better, but it could also be soy is not right for his system.

I don't know about soy formula, but I can assure you that when my youngest has a stinky I can smell it through the crack under her door when I'm walking by in the hallway! I don't recall having that problem with her older brother.

Poop stinks. And some kids have stinkier poop than others, I guess.

But in an attempt to actually be helpful, I will include this quote:

"If you do change infant formula your baby's stools (poop) may change in color, thickness and/or smell."

from this website:

http://www.babycareadvice.com/babycare/general_help/artic...

So hopefully the stink-fest is just temporary and will subside as your little man adjusts to the new formula.

In the meantime, light a match? ;-)

We had to switch my son around on all kinds of formulas and "milks". His diapers were WAY more horrible than my sister's breast fed son!! They will also become really bad when you start switching to solid foods.

YES! Soy milk/formula makes for VERY stinky poop! Both my kids stank up the room. I think you just got lucky with your first not being stinky. All the kids I've known who were on soy were just stinky.
In fact, when my daughter was about 9 months (before soy), I babysat the neighbor boy. He was about the same age and on soy formula. I had just found out I was pregnant with my second. I finally had to tell the neighbor that I couldn't babysit anymore because I couldn't take the smell of the diapers!

My son was on soy formula for a while while he was sick, and I agree that his diapers were much smellier while he was on the soy formula. Yuck! At least they don't stay on formula for long!

Yep, soy will do that. My son and a friend's daughter both had that issue on soy formula.

I had my son on soy milk and was given info from friends about not giving soy to boys under age 7. My research showed that there is the potential for thyroid and reproductive problems for little boys who ingest a lot of soy products. If your son can't do any kind of milk - you are limited in choices. It may be worth it to try the lactose free formulas that are not soy based.

Here's one site that I have found helpful. -http://www.soyonlineservice.co.nz/
