So we're about to embark on our road trip to Texas from Washington. I can't find a trip planner online. I would like to be able to plan out stops ie where gas stations are, hotels, restaurants and/or parks. I need these stops because I'm 32 weeks pregnant and traveling with a 15 month old. I know NOTHING ever goes as planned, but it would be nice to have a guesstimate. I've tried yahoo and google and I just can't seem to figure out how to include stops. Everything I've seen so far is just adding destinations by city or address :( If anyone knows of a better idea than a trip planner please fill me in. I have an android cell phone, but using apps eats up my battery. If all else fails I guess I could go get a phone charger for the car. Trying to not spend as much money as possible, because gas is gonna be the majority of our travel bill lol Much Thanks in advance!!!

What can I do next?

AAA has a trip planner that is pretty decent. I've used it to plan out interesting places to stop. However after traveling this last time with a 7 month old, using the GPS was invaluable. It really helped in finding whatever we needed right when we needed it.

Do you have AAA, if so they will do a trip tix and send you maps. Not sure if you can do it if you are not a member.

Tripit.com. It's the best.

Hmm......I'd like this too. We're heading on a roadtrip in a couple of weeks. I've run into the same problem. But....The last time we went on a trip Poynt on my husband's Blackberry was really handy. It uses your GPS location to tell you what sites, gas stations, restaurants, etc. are nearby. When the baby got hungry or antsy we could just use it to locate the restaurants and interesting stops nearby. It was a lifesaver! Hope that helps a little. ;)

Contact your local AAA. They have what they call a Trip-Tik and it's customized for your trip and has exactly the things you're looking for. I know that it's a free service for members, but they may be willing to do it for a small fee for non-members. (And believe me, even if they do charge you, it is well worth it, I promise!) Have a safe trip!

Hi,

My husband and I use TripIt for trip planning. Although we use it primarily for sharing the big picture with friends and family, it does show driving directions between locations, and I think you can use it to help schedule stops.

You mentioned the possibility of using your phone for help...I have a Motorola Droid, and I invested in the car mount setup: http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-.... It allows me to mount my phone on the windshield of the car to use hands-free or to make using the GPS easier to use. It also includes the charger. I've found it to be worth the cost!

That said...If phone battery weren't an issue, TripIt also has a free Droid app. And the Droid OS has "Places" which finds gas stations, restaurants, etc. near a specific location.

Enjoy the trip!

You can use AAA.com If you are a member you can save it, but I'm not sure about printing it if you aren't a member. I know it will show you gas stations, hotels etc. along your route if you zoom in far enough. You can ask it to show you all sorts of features. Good luck with your road trip!

Do you belong to triple A? If not get a membership. Not only will they deliver gas if you run out, fix your flat or tow you for no money, they can plan your trip totally. See if there are books in the public library about the areas you are travelling through.
