HI C.,

I have been looking into the lap band surgery and the gastric bypass. If you go to lapband.com,look at the schedule for a seminar near you and I highly recemend that you attend one it was very informative. I choose to do the gastric bypass and I am in the process of seeing a surgen and getting scheduled to have it done. My surgen is Dr Machado and I really really like her she will go over both surgeries with you and she lets you make you own decision on which one you want to do. Of course both have risks and there are pros and cons to both. Feel free to email me with any questions you might have but I highly recemend you start at the website first!!!

Attend some of the support groups. Sutter General has one that meets, I believe once a month or maybe more often. Talk to individuals that have had the surgery and were successes. My experience has been individuals that lost 100 lbs. but gained back 50, lost 150 lbs. and still keeping it off and then my first patient that raided the employee refrigerator right after surgery and thus was a complete failure. You mentioned God. Pray about it, get your husband involved in the decision as well as the rest of your family. The "trauma" of the surgery if you can call it that gets you off to a good start. A positive attitude carries you the rest of the way. Don't give up that support group. They are the been there, done that group and have a wealth of information and support. I'll be praying for you, that you will make the right decision for you.

Not only do I know people who have had lap band I am also considering either lap or gastric as well. I too am not quite 100 pounds overweight and am lookinng for extra help. Either procedure will not be the answer to the problem. I have spoken to many people who have went thru the surgeries Some have gained the weight back some have kept it off successfully. you will lose the weight quick, after all you stomach will be the size of an egg and as long as you follow the "diet" you can maintain the weight loss. My suggestion is to start reading and asking around As soon as you mention you are thinking of having it you will meet someone who has or knows someone and they can tell you how it was for them Everyone will react differently .Some come out feeling well some come out sick as a dog for months So as I am doing, investgate put all your ducks in a row before making the decision
Best of Luck

Hi C., You might want to look into Somersizing, my husband and I have been doing it since 2001 and I lost 75lbs and my husband lost 140lbs plus we have been able to keep it off and we are still loosing.

I believe so much in Somersizing because it worked great for my husband and I that I am now a distributor for her foods. You are welcome to contact me if you would like to know more. 1-###-###-#### www.suzanne24.com/E.. A good book to get started with is called "Fast and Easy" by Suzanne Somers.

Hope this has been helpful. My husband did a lot of research on the various surgeries and decided to give this a try first because he loves to eat and doing the surgery you have to give it up, but doing Somersizing you don't give up food, you get lots of it.

I would like to loose another 50lbs and my husband 100lbs and eventually we will get there.

i have four clients and one friend that i do trialthalons and races with that havehad lap band surgerty. i'm a hair stylist and ahve seen many people with weight lose surgery and if i were to choose oneit would be this one. there are no issues with malabsorbtion. a lower rate of future osteoporosis. everything is reversable and fixable with laposcopic surgery. i say get the counsleing that goes with the surgery and make your decision. my brother died of obsesity related issues at the age of thirty five. there is no time like the present to make a change. research and be sure. good luck.

I have had the lapband surgery. It is definitely the more healthy weight loss surgery with less complications. It is NOT, however, easy. Please don't think you're finding a miracle cure. I have not had bread or any carbonation in over 5 years. That's not always easy. I can't eat apples, broccoli, asparagus, or artichokes. No tortillas. It's not the same for everyone, but in order for it to be successful it IS a mind shift as well as a tool. Please check out my website for more about my journey... www.vegetarianbandster.com. Good luck!

I had the surgery about 10 years ago. Before the surgery I was 333lbs. I now weigh 160 and am 5'8. Most people with lose about 3/4 of their goal weight. The rest of the weight, I found I had to work at to lose. The surgery has been a blessing to me. I lost the weight fairly fast, and to this day I am able to run and exercise at the gym (something I couldn't do before) I am so much more healthier, and feel so much better. But, the surgery isn't easy. For about the first two years I got sick alot, due to the fact I was adjusting and trying to learn what I could eat. I finally figured out little tricks that helped. For example-I can eat bread alot easier if it's toasted. I have a really hard time with meat, and must eat very little. I have had to take iron, and vitamins just to make sure I am getting everything I need. In the beginning I lost weight so fast. I think about 20lbs my first month. I had lost 50 lbs within 3 months. But, overtime my hair thined out. And, I also don't have as good of teeth as I use to, this is from getting sick so much for the first few years. But, other then that I am fine.

It takes awhile to adjust. You don't realize how much you base your life around food. I remember eating not being fun at all for awhile. Today, I love to eat, and can eat most foods, just in small amounts. I also missed the feeling of chowing into a big hamburger, or something similar. I would see a steak or a hamburger commercial and it would drive me crazy. But, it doesn't bother me at all anymore. I am so use to the surgery I feel like anyone else. You also have to get use to eating out, I mostly enjoy appetizers, or side dishes, or soups or salads. It's all just a change that before long you won't even notice. The benifits were far more for me! I feel and look great! I never thought I could weigh this little or wear such a small size! You should definately join a support group, after surgery!

I had bariatric surgery 6 months ago. I have lost over 100 pounds and am very glad I did it. I have more to lose! I did a lot of research before having this surgery, Duodenal Switch. The one thing I found is that the lap band procedure has a 25% failure rate. Also, once you have lost weight it is easy to put back on because your digestion is as before and you absorb everything you eat. My recommendation is to look at different types of bariatric surgery. I would not recommend the Rouen-Y as it seems to have lots of problems for life. Just one comment - if I "only" had 100 lbs. to lose I would probably not have done any bariatric surgery. Of course this depends on what health problems you have, too. There are support groups you may want to attend to get some information. Good luck to you!

I had Gastric Bypass in June 07. I was 100 pounds overweight and miserable about myself. I have lost my weight since thena nd am sooo happy. As far as the lap band. Have you talked to your insurance to see if they cover it? A lot of insurances wont cover lap band but will cover bypass. If you are 75 pounds with co-morbid diseases such as high blood pressure or diabetis you would most likely be a shoe in for the surgery. Call your insurance company directly that is the best place to start. Let me know how you do. J

Hi C., Ophrah just had a show about weight loss surgeries last week where Dr. Oz described the differences. She had guests representing the different types of surgeries. I wonder if you could go to her website for more info. I thought it was pretty informative. If you would like a less invasive, safe, organic and healthy way to shed those pounds; let me know.
It is easy and cost effective. I would love to help you. I know several people who have lost over 100 lbs using this system and I could put you in touch with some of them if you like. They also didn't seem to have the sagging skin that can occur with other methods of rapid weight loss. It is important to explore all options so you make an informed and educated decision that is right for you and your lifestyle. No matter what you choose they all involve a lifestyle change. Good for you for exploring options for your health. A health crisis prompted me to try the nutritional system I mentioned and I could not be happier.

C.,

I just thought I'd throw this out there as. I don't know if you've tried other methods yet, but I recently had some very encouraging results with The Medifast-Take Shape For Life diet program. It is a meal replacement type system, where I was able to eat their meals/shakes for 5 meals each day, and then prepare a sixth meal on my own which consisted of lean meat protein and vegetables. It was created by a cardic doctor who needed to find a way to help his patients lose enough weight quickly to make surgery safer. It is formualted to make your body burn it's fat stores, while maintaining muscle mass. Anyway, I lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks, and have kept it off for 6 months now. I plan to go back on it to lose another 15-25 lbs soon. My chiropractor recommended it to me, and if you wanted more info I could give you her number. Good luck, and take care of yourself!
