Any Moms of Tummy Sleepers Out There?

Hi Moms, I have a newborn - 4 weeks old. I have found that she only sleeps well on her tummy! She can already pick up her head. I have allowed her to sleep like this during the day when I can monitor her regularly... I've been scared to let her sleep on her tummy at night so far. but I know she'd sleep so much more peacefully this way. I know this subject is kind of taboo, but I'm curious if there are any moms who have had similar experiences with your babies and how you handled it. thanks!

I have allowed both of my young children to sleep on their tummies and I am at peace with it because I covered my mattresses to protect against sids. Many sids deaths are caused by the baby breathing a lot of a chemical found in the mattress. My covering them, the baby cannot breathe the chemical making it impossible to die from SIDS. To buy the mattress covers go to www.stopsidsnow.com Hope this helps!!!

My boys were and are tummy sleepers. Just keep any blankets out if it makes you nervous.

my daughter always slept on her tummy even when she was in the nicu. if your baby sleeps on her tummy durring the day and is ok she will probably be ok for the night. try it one night and if everythig goes ok then continue it. also my daughter slept on her side.

my daughter has slept on her tummy since she was a newborn, not to say it didn't come with LOTS of worry on my part. I did feel more at ease because she slept in her bassinet right next to my bed at night and I just recently moved her to her own room/crib when she turned 3 months. I have continued to let her sleep on her tummy and she can roll from tummy to her back and is very good at lifting and turning her head. I had the same concerns and know some people really frown on tummy sleeping but after asking a few friends and family members most said , do what you are comfortable with!! (my daughter has also not experienced any respiratory problems so that also made me feel more comfortable with the decision)

All three of my kids slept on their tummys from day one they are 18 15 & 6 all healthy. Again I agree with the other poster who said I would worry after shots but otherwise no worries. Good luck! Also if your worried about blankets & being cold get them a sleep sack they are great and very safe.

HI N., all of my 3 kids were and are tummy sleepers. I dressed them in warm jammies and kept a slow fan going in the room for air circulation. If she is able to lift her head and hasn't had any breathing issues then by all means let her be comfortable. If you are still worried as I was, put the basinette in your room and check on her often; but I think she will be fine. As a matter of fact, baby experts before the 90s recommended that babies sleep on their tummies. It's just one of those things that falls in to the
"mommy knows best"
catagory.

My son slept on his tummy from 1 week on. The only time you have to worry about SIDS is right after a vaccination since the chemicals FRY the nervous system and they tend to regress. Of course, if you aren't vaccinating then you don't have to worry. I didn't put any blankets in the bed with my son until he was about 9 months.
