Dear Moms,
My Boy/Girl twins' 5 year old birthday is coming up in a month. I'd like to throw a nice birthday party inviting all of their 20some pre-K classmates. For the past two years, we did their party at a Kid's gymnastic place where instructors entertain kids for two hours followed by meals and cake. Although it was great fun, this year I would like to have it at a new and unique place for kids' birthday party. Throughout the last year, other classmates' birthday parties have been held at park, indoor play ground, home backyard, etc. Could anyone suggest an awesome place for 5 years old birthday party which will be very unique, one of the kind type of setting, pleasant surprise to every kid and parents invited? Or even if we do it at one of the above usual places, any creative ideas to entertain 5 year old girls and boys in uniquely/creatively fantastic ways?

Thanks very much in advance!

What can I do next?

In our area, you can have a party at the zoo, children's museum, space center, science center, train park, amusement park, ice cream shop, ice/roller skating rink, bowling alley, Pump It Up, Build A Bear, karate studio, Michaels and more places that I can't think of right now ;-p.

You can also have a petting zoo/pony, princesses/characters, balloon artist, face painter, magician, clown/juggler, bounce house, come to your location.

You're in LA, I'm sure you have similar, if not better, party options in your area :-)

Just found this: http://voices.yahoo.com/top-10-kids-birthday-parties-plac... for the LA area.

Have fun!

We're in Orange County so not too far away. What we used last year was the Children's Museum in La Habra. We had food and cake outside on the picnic tables, the kids and parents were free to go in the museum, play on the playground in the park, everyone had a blast. We hit it on the first Saturday of the month and took advantage of free admission, I believe it's through Target who sponsors it.

Talk about uniquely, creative, fascinating ways to entertain! There was face painting offered for a minimal fee outside the entrance, tons of activities for the kids from a Thomas the Train room, musical instruments to play, costumes like real fire fighter gear to try on and play in, a stage my granddaughters loved performing on, etc. My son-in-law, a high school teacher, said he never knew the place existed, they've driven up from Laguna Beach twice now so my granddaughter and friends can play. If you're too far away I'm sure you can find a children's museum nearer to you. Parents and kids alike would love it :)

Our local grocery store will do birthday parties with a cooking class for little kids. Our Michaels also offers crafting birthday parties.

In my area there is a place that will come to your party and provide a parrot/bird performance show. I don't know if there is something similar in your area. I did a quick google search for Los Angeles and saw this link:

I don't know anything about them, but if you hosted your own party it might be something unique. Hopefully the kids won't get scared.

In addition to the other places mentioned, you could look for trampoline places. Also I'm not sure 5 is the right age, but there are also places where you can paint pottery, it gets baked, and the kids get to keep what they painted.

I know that in OC, we have several nature centers that do b-day parties. I would bet that there are ecological centers or nature parks that will do talks about wild animals etc.

I just made this:

with my kids. Cheap and easy and they are thoroughly entertained. ( one piece of advice... wear gloves when you mix in the food dye.

Near where we live there is a place called cirque among us. They have classes or parties and teach kids circus skills like juggling, tightrope, and cycling (etc).
I didn't do the search for you, but perhaps there is something similar in your area?

Our children's museum hosts all kinds of parties - science, Lego, waterworks. There is a huge playarea on the top level for young siblings to go.

Fine arts museum...give the kids drawing paper, have them walk around at all the different art and then have them try and draw it out themselves w/colored or charcoal pencils. Or give the modeling clay and try to duplicate sculptures.

Don't know about your stadiums, but Cowboys Stadium lets kids have parties in one of the suites and then the kids can have a game of football right on the field. The girls may not like it but maybe they can be the cheerleaders.
