My five month old "brick" (26 inches 18lbs)is outgrowing his infant car seat by the minute and I will be moving him up to the Britax Marathon and Roundabout that my 3 and half year old preschooler "stick"( 38 inches and 28 lbs) is presently in ( hubby has roundabout in his car getting tight) I need to get two more car seats to put my older boy in, but he is too small for the booster. I saw a cosco 5 point harness that goes to 100 lbs but that was the only choice at my local babies r us and was curious if any moms out there were in a similar situation and what seat you would recommend for older child or do I just buy 2 more marathons? My husband and I both drive mid size suv's. I will happily go to other stores and check out any car seats that you may advise and I greatly appreciate any feedback given.

What can I do next?

We have a 5 year old girl about 39 inches and 40 lbs and a 4 year old boy about 40 inches and 43 lbs. They are both in Cosco brand child seats that use the seat belt through the back of the child seat. They are 5 point harnesses that work great. They have lots of head room and they know how to unbuckle and buckle themselves in. They are not big enough yet for only the booster. Hope this helps.

We have the Eddie Bauer Alpha Omega Elite for both kids (who are both 90-95%, my daughter will be 3 in April, and my son is 8 months). It is just like the Cosco one that you decribed above, I just found this one first (and I had a coupon for BRU). My son also outgrew his seat (28" & 23 lbs) really quickly! We've been very happy with these seats - great quality, fit easily in both my car (an Altima) and my husbands' (an LR Freelander). It goes up to 100 lbs, so hopefully this will be the only seat that we need.

HI M.

You can contact Diana Starace, Injury Prevention Coordinator RWJUH. She offers presentations and information regarding car seat safety. I am sure she can tell you what you need to look for when purchasing a car seat for your child. ###-###-####

I just bought the Alpha Elite car seat for my 6 month old girl who is 22lbs. and I think about 28 1/2 inches. She quickly outgrew the graco infant car seat that we were using. Anyway, I have only been using it for a week but so far so good. It will grow with her and eventually it will be used it as a booster. My goal when I bought this carseat was that it would be the last one that I buy. I got it from Babies R Us and it was about $160.00, much cheaper than the Britax. I also live in New Jersey and go to the Babies R Us on Rt. 1 in NOrth Brunswick. They have a good selection of seats there.
Good Luck!!

Did you know that Britax came out w/ a new model? It's called the Diplomat. I'm am using it for my 16 month old. I liked it b/c it has side impact protectors and it is slimmer then the marathon or roundabout. Don't know if it will meet what your looking for but just wanted to let you know about it.
