Does anyone have a place they would recommend in Chicago for the 3D/4D ultrasound? I am wondering if anyone has had a good experience with one, or if there are places to avoid. Thanks!!
Do a little reading on ultrasounds too. The FDA is cracking down on the vanity places as there is some question to their safety.
Ultrasound conducts heat-- which causes cellular change- which could possibly cause problems-- not proven-- but currently being studied. CNN did a piece on this not too long ago
Is there a medical need for the 4D ultrasound? If so, your ob/gyn would be able to give you a referral for one. Avoid places that simply prey on the 'vanity aspect' of having the procedure done; they're typically more expensive and may not have the best trained staff/sonographers. Find one that is medically-based as opposed to artistically-based.
We went to Stork Snapshots in Naperville. It was great - we went for both kids. We talked to our doctor and she approved it first.
We had it done with both children and used Stork Snapshots the first time and then Golden View the next. Both places were about the same. The only advice is to wait toward the later end of the pregnancy to get it done so that the baby has more fat and takes a better picture. With my first baby, we were so excited, we went as soon as we could (somewhere in the 20 something week, I think) and my daughter was so skinny and strange looking, sort of distorted, I was scared. She did not look anything like her 4D ultrasound when she was born, thank goodness!
With my son, we waited until the last 2 weeks we could do it, and he took a very nice picture.
