We like to play pictonary. We have two sets of teams, one team makes the clues for the other team then use a chalk board. As long as you have a chalk board or can get one the only out of pocket is chalk and thats about a dollar.

Anytime we have a game night or party, everyone always wants to play the game "Sequence". It is so fun, and everyone gets involved, even the kids end up joining in.

At a mom's night out we played The Great Dalmuti. It was pretty fun.

I also second Pictionary, Charades, and Trivial Pursuit.

There is this game we play at baby/bridal showers but I have heard of people playing at christmas. Some call it the candy bar game. you get a bunch of small wrapped presents. usually at least to cover half the people. if you want you can do more. At the baby/bridal showers we use small gift cards, lotion, candles, etc. For this you can use candy bars, candy apples, scratcher tix, and even dollar store gag gifts (we did at my brother's graduation). Sit everyone in a circle and place the gifts in the middle. Get a few pie tins and a few sets of dice. put 2 dice in each tin. place the tins around the circle. Everyone takes a turn rolling the di. If they get doubles they get a prize and open it. even if they already have one. after one roll they pass the plate. (choose a direction for them to always go) If you want to be festive you can buy plain wooden dice at a craft store and make your own word to spell. (baby shower=BABY, Bridal=Kiss, i Do or my sis in law was "lara") For christmas may I suggest TREE? Just write 2 of each letter on each dice. Once all the gifts are out of the middle the fun can really begin. Set the timer for a few mins (we usually do 3 or 4). When you get doubles now you can steal from one another. So much fun. My sis in law did gag gifts from the dollar store (enema, sardines, rubber snake, pregnancy test) in addition to some candy bars, and small gift cards. Then she had like a $20 prize for people to "fight" over. it was so much fun. I didn't even win anything. Not even an enema! HAHA.

Get a bunch of Red and Gree playdough and see who can make the best
" tree " or " Presant " or something in 2 min . All can participate.
Get an hour glass timer for this. It is a load of fun !

Catch Phrase is wonderful for a big group.

We love to play charades (men against women) or Trivial Pursuit.

My friend likes to set up games in 3 different rooms and divide everyone up, then rotate.

We had a New Year's party a couple years ago. Here are two of the activities we did for the adults and teens:

Supplies: A pencil, marker or pen and a sheet of paper for everyone.
Activity: Each person has to think up a common phrase ("out of the fire, into the frying pan" is a good example) and then write it at the top of their paper. Fold it over and pass it to the person next to them. Take the new paper they've just received, unfold it to read the phrase. Fold it over again and then draw something to represent the phrase. Fold it over and pass them along again. This time everyone has to write a phrase to represent the drawing. Continue until the pages make a full circle or until people run out of room (encourage them to keep the drawings relatively small). Then everyone reads and describes the words and images on the page. It's like that old game "Telephone," but visual.

Supplies: Two (clean!) toilet plungers and two rolls of paper.
Break the group into two teams (we did guys vs. girls). Most people stand in two lines on one side of the room, with one person from each team facing them on the other side of the room. The single people stand with a roll of toilet paper between their legs. The first person in each line has a toilet plunger between their legs, pole (handle) pointing in front of them. They walk (waddle) to their team member who has the toilet paper and *without using any hands* get the toilet paper onto the plunger pole. Once it's on, the plunger goes to the new first person in line, and the person who carried the plunger is the new person to hold the toilet paper.

The two things that freak people out about these activities are 1) I CAN'T DRAW!!!! (it's not an art contest, stick figures are totally welcome) and 2) WHAT THE HECK?!?! (again, we did girls vs. boys, so it didn't become *that* kind of activity, lol). In my experience, everyone had a good time doing both, even though we had a mix of people.

Happy celebrating!
