Abnormal Period

I hope this isn't TMI, but I just need to see if this has happened to anyone else. I stopped nursing my baby back in September. My first period was weird, but then after that I had a few normal ones. Now for the last two months I have my regular period and then I have another week of bleeding in between periods. This has never happened to me before and it's really annoying. I'm on birth control so you'd think it would be regular. Is this just my hormones going crazy, is it the birth control, or is something wrong? I haven't called my doctor about it because she moved offices and I'm going to try and find a new one anyways. I'll probably end up calling soon, but figured I would see if I get any responses on here! I'm actually thinking about just going off birth control to see if that helps!

What can I do next?

I had the same thing happen, and it never resolved itself. My OB tried BC pills, hormone supplements and D&C's (2 of them). Nothing worked. This went on for 3 years. I had a hysterectomy in '09. I hope it doesn't happen to you this way, but if it goes on for another cycle, I would see a doctor. I could be polyps, hormones, or who knows what? Good luck.

I had something similar happen and when I called my OBGYN to complain she changed me to a different BC pill with just a phone consultation so I didnt't even have to pay another co-pay, plus it did the trick. But like you the bleeding 2-3 weeks out of month was driving me nuts and it had NEVER happened before I gave birth, so stop worrying and call your DR.

Good Luck with whatever you decide!

I have had this happen after nursing with two out of my three kids. I just chalked it up to hormones. The only weird thing for you is that you are on birth control and that is supposed to regulate your period. I know that if you are not real consistent with the pill you can have random periods, maybe that is it. Regardless, I would maybe wait it out one more month, see if it straightens out, if not got to the doc.

Good luck!

I think what you're going through is very common. I know, for me, it took several months for things to get back to normal after I quit breastfeeding.

Because you are on the Pill, you just can't know for sure what's going on. The Pill can have all sorts of side effects, and this irregular bleeding is probably one of them. I would find a new doctor and seriously consider getting off the Pill.

This is probably just your hormones regulating themselves. I didn't get my first period until my son was 7 months old and it didn't regulate into my normal pre-baby schedule until he was almost 2 years old. (I stopped nursing at 12 1/2 months.) They were really heavy and no rhyme or reason as to when they would stop and start.

It can be a combination of your birth control and your hormones after breastfeeding. It took about 6 months for my periods to go back to normal after weaning, and I weaned when my baby was 1.5 years old.

Do you happen to be on a Tri-Cyclen pill? Same exact thing just happened to me. My OB blamed it on my Ortho Tri-Cyclen (which I thought was crazy - been on that pill for 15 years, minus the time I was pregnant and bf'ing). She switched me to Loestrin 24 - no more bleeding in between! I'd go to the OB just to make sure nothing else is going on, but that was the solution for me. Good luck!
