9 Month Old Spitting Food

Hmmmm. One train of thought says that if babies are ready for "solid" food that they will self-feed, meaning give them only soft food on their tray and let them set the pace. Maybe she isn't too interested yet?

I second the idea of letting her know it isn't a game by just ending the meal and maybe trying again later.

hello, try getting down to her level with your face close and say "no" in your stern voice, forcefully, no smiling either...hee. look into her eyes, of course this is after she does it to avoid getting food in your face.

LOL, sorry. It's only funny after your kids grow out of this stage. I know people think that babies don't understand what you're telling them, but they really do. Start by telling her no, when that doesn't work, take the food away, when she cries for it, tell her no spitting. Then, start the process all over again. Just keep repeating the process, she'll catch on faster than you think. This spitting food phase is one of those funny moments that is great on home video. lol. Like I said once it's over, you can look back and laugh about it forever. :)

When my daughter did this it wasn't because she liked to spit food, it was because she was pretty much in love with spitting altogether. Raspberries were her thing, man! She probably wont even totally get what you are getting on to her for. So I would distract her while you are giving her the bite. If you are singing to her or blowing bubbles (I know it all sounds silly but the goal is to walk away free of baby food, right?)is thinking of something other than spitting. She really isn't trying to spit on you. I promise. She just loves the great new thing she can do with her mouth. ANd believe it or not manipulating her mouth in different ways - even spitting - is pre-speech exercise for her.
