My 9 1/2 month old has been on table food for snacks and with some of his baby food. He is very picky when it comes to the table food. the only thhings i can get him to eat are: banana, nutra grain bars, puffs, veggie crackers,(sometimes chicken nuggets & grilled cheese)kix ceral, yogurt. but thats it!( ive offered several times: pears, peaches(cut up)chicken noddle soup, spaghetti os, mac cheese, green beans, peas, carrots, meat sticks,ravoli.....the list goes on and on.)

I guess my question is has anyone experienced this?how do i get him used to more table food?as he only has 2 months and hes off baby food? my daughter was totally off baby food at 9 months, she loved table food. so im at a lost ,here! Thanks for any & all advice!

ps. my little man is only 40 % for his weight and 90 th for height. he has even lost a pound in 2 weeks!im alittle worried about him!

What can I do next?

Why does he have to be off baby food in 2 months.?? What is the big hurry?

My duaghter had lots of food texture issues when she started eating table foods.. Lots of foods would make her gag or she just wouldnt eat certain foods. It all resolved over time.

Your son can continue to eat baby food until he is ready for table foods. Whenever he is ready. He is still getting most of his nutrition from his formula. The food is not that important yet.

Just be patient. he will eat food when he is ready. My daughter stopped gagging on food and now eats most anything at 15 months. but it took a while and she was on bby food unitl about 12 months.

He should still be getting most of his nutrition from breast milk or formula. If he is losing weight and not eating "table food" I would talk to your Dr. and consider increasing the amount of formula/breast milk he gets. Also, if he likes the baby food, let him have it. He doesn't have to be completely on table food at one year. Stick with what he will eat-- everything will come in time. I actually think it sounds like he is eating quite a variety of table food for his age.

Good luck.

Its sounds like he is eating normally for his age. I think some of the things you are offering, he isnt ready for yet.

Hi C.,
Sounds normal to me. Every child is different and some take longer to adapt to table food. He should still be breastfeeding or getting formula. Double check with you ped. but I think at that age he should be getting 18 ounces of formula. I wouldn't worry so much about it. Also don't take away baby food at a certain time. If he is still eating it after his first birthday don't stress about it. Good luck.

Hi C.,

this sounds totally normal for the age of your little guy. Some kids just adapt to table foods faster than others. I think you should continue to offer the table foods and he will get the hang of it eventually. With my daughter I just took the jarred foods away one day. And that is when she really started to take notice of the table foods and we haven't looked back since. And since he is still on formula/breast milk, he is getting all the nutrition he needs from that. The solid foods are really just practice eating for him still. And don't worry, he won't starve himself. He will eat when he is ready.

Hang in there!

C.,
All kids go through "phases". I took my oldest, now 17, to the doc, because the only thing she would eat for almost 2 WEEKS was mac and cheese!! She told me not to worry that this will happen and just make sure she is drinking juices and it will pass... it did so when my son, now 15 ate only pbj, I was like ok, this too will pass...lol
Good Luck

Hi C.! I would definetly talk to the doc about him loosing weight. But my guess would be that he isn't getting enough BABY food and formula or breast milk, and too much TABLE food. I think 9 mos is kind of early for all the foods you mentioned. Its great to introduce babies to new foods, but not so much at one time. The first table food I started my son on was mashed potatoes. Then I slowly introduced new solids gradually, probably one every week or so. My son was in a low percentile for weight for a very long time - he is just a small kid and still is!! So I constantly was worried about his weight so I fed him the foods he loved. I continued to give him iron fortified cereal until about his first bday. I would just mix it in with other food he liked, like applesauce. My ped. just stressed that he continued to get 18 oz of formula a day and he'd be fine. So I don't think that your son is being "picky", its probably just more that he isn't ready for all these new choices because he is still so young.
Hope the advice helps!!!
