My 4 year old was just diagnosed with Dyspraxia. Does anyone else have a child who suffers from this who can offer any information. My daughter doesn't have any Autistic characteristics that I see but I know those two go hand in hand. Also, if you have one child with dyspraxia did the other children suffer from it as well? Any Mommy info would be great. We are getting lots from our OT and PT therapists but looking to hear from mommies too. Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

I have worked with students who had dyspraxia, and none of the kiddos I taught who had it had autism (nor did I even suspect that those particular kids had autism). One child in particular, although he did have a learning disability, was one of the brightest little guys I've ever worked with. Be careful not to jump to conclusions, it'll cause you needless hours of wasted energy worrying. Keep in mind, headaches don't always equal brain tumors- sometimes it's simply a headache. Sometimes dyspraxia is simply dyspraxia. Also, one of those students I am certain had siblings, and his brothers did not have dyspraxia. I cannot remember if the others had siblings or not.

I don't know much about dyspraxia, but I recently met a doctor in Plano, Dr. Cavazos. He has a therapy called interactive metronome and brainworx that help grow the brain by working on motor planning. From the description your daughter may be a little young but it would be worth looking into. His website is http://www.chiropracticfirst.org/custom_content/132081_in....

Hi my 9 year old son has dyspraxia or motor coordination disorder since he was a toddler. It coexists with add inattentive for him but that is not to say every child displays both. We have done many rounds of PT/OT with limited success. Mostly his skills improved the first 6 months and then plateaued. Lots of things are harder for him....shoe laces, handwritig, sports. BUT he is very functional in many areas and so will your daughter!

Despite the dyspraxia my son can ride a bike with no trainers, swim reasonably well and plays violin! He is a good student at school and despite struggles with attention he achieves. It has taken tremendous time and money to get him
this far....lots of therapy and working with him one on one after school. I am his "manager" and cheerleader and coach.
Your daughter will do wonderful things if you believe in her and work with her with patience. You will have to motivate her! But she will be successful.
Good luck!
