I was an Administrative Assistant for 2 years and then was laid off and every since then I've been looking for work and then found out I was pregnant in December. Once I got past the sickness part of the pregnancy, I've been looking forward to going back to work. It's pretty hard trying to find a job while I'm 4 months pregnant, so I've been looking into the temp agencies. Does anyone think it's good to be upfront about being pregnant or should I just not mention it? I am getting bigger, so it's going to be hard trying to hide it afterwhile. If anyone is looking for a Administrative Assistant or just have some type of office work available or any advice...please let me know:-)

What can I do next?

Stop telling the temp agencies that you're pregnant. It is none of their business and is clearly not helping you get a job. You are not doing anyone any favors by being up from with them. They do not have your best interests at heart so don't worry about them. If you have to quit after 5 months or 5 years that is their problem not yours.

Are you looking for temp work or for a full-tiem position to which you'd return after maternity leave? That makes a difference. If you're looking for a longer term fit, I think you definitely should be up front with them. My friends and I had a long discussion about this not too long ago, since one was in a situation where they hired someone at her company only to find out the woman was 4 months pregnant and therefore would be gone on maternity leave within 5 months of being hired. It wouldn't have made a difference in the hiring of her, but after the fact people didn't have a high opinion of her because she hadn't disclosed it. It alienated a lot of people in her workplace. If, however, you're just looking for something temporary, then I don't think you need to disclose at this point, since you'd be in a market for a temp position anyway where they'd have no long term expectation.

have you tried any of the on-line agencies that someone posted on here earlier this month? That wouldn't make a difference if you are prego or not. Also, if it is a temp agency- who cares if they know if you are prego or not. A full time position though- you have to be upfront with them or it will lead to questions of "what else didn't she tell us?" I was getting called about an opportunity and then I found out I was expecting and was trying to figure out how I was going to get out of the discussion because I didn't want to take a new position and then have to go off on maternity leave in 8 months. My situation is different though- I have a job now.
