3Yo Runny Nose/allergies

Hi all,

My 3yo little girl has developed seasonal allergies over the past couple of years. Her nose is a constant faucet and I feel horrible. I've tried Children's Claritin and it did NOTHING. So I moved on to Children's Allegra per the pharmacists request which has also done NOTHING (the pharmacist did tell me that Allegra and similar need a couple days to build up the histamine levels but it still doesn't work). I then moved onto Whole Foods and found all natural kids allergy drops which smells so horrid she gagged and won't come near me if she sees these drops. I'm now onto Pedia Care allergy and still, nothing is touching her runny faucet of a nose.

Is there ANYTHING out there that will dry up an allergy nose for a 3yo?? With how bad it runs, she will also inevitably end up with an ear infection, it's the nasty cycle I'm in:(

TIA!

What can I do next?

WE use Veramyst and have for the last 2 years. She has not had a runny nose since. We give it to her each night. It is great. It was a prescription through her ENT doctor. She had so many ear infections that we had to do somthing. Good luck!

We have fought allergies, nasal drainage, runny nose, cough, etc. for years with my 6 1/2 yr old son. Nothing Rx or over the counter seemed to help. Had him tested for allergies and nothing showed up. Did Flonase, everything. Went to CareNow in October for sister's sore throat and he was complaining of his normal, always runny head and drainage. They both had strep and the dr asked if we had ever had his adenoids checked. No one had ever mentioned it! Took him to the ent dr and he didn't know how he was breathing through his nose, they were that big! Had them taken out on Jan. 6th and he still has some drainage but we're going to try the Flonase now. At least it will get to his sinuses now!
Hope you find something that helps.

My daughter took Children's Zyrtec prior to changing her diet due to other health issues. We found that the change in diet (which includes local honey - thought to help with allergies) not only helped with her autoimmune illnesses, but also made her allergies and asthma almost disappear. She was getting Zyrtec daily for about half the year during the worst times of allergy season, but hasn't had it in more than a year. It was the only over-the-counter allergy medication that worked for her.

She got a nasal infection last summer and used Flonase, which seemed to work.

Saline drops to clear the nasal passages can help keep allergens from building up.

My son who just turned 5 had them super bad last yr-we went to an allergist and they made sure there was nothing her was allergic to-then he put him on saline drops and they help and he was taking singulair which helped, but since is now off of it, and he is still doing pulmacort in the nebulizer as maintenance and if he develops a cough we add albuterol to it. Also Benadryl does work too :)

My son has the same thing. His nose runs from September to May. Part of me thinks he is allergic to something at his school since some long week-ends he is free of the runny nose. Also as our dr. pointed out little kids get 7 to 10 colds a year and frankly it could be a continuous cold so no meds will really help. That being said we used allegra, claritin and zyrtec all with no real relief. A friend recommended Redd Remedies Children's sinus support, which you can buy at Sprouts and probably Natural Grocers. Anyhow it seems to be somewhat effective and he likes to take it so I figure since it is really a supplement to help with sinus support it is ok. Also, he acted kind of crazy on the commercial allergy meds. and this does not make him act strangely so I am all for it. Good luck, I know how frustrating it is try to figure out what is going on and how to help the little ones:)

both of my girls are on zyrtec and I have flonase for when they need it. flonase you need to get a perscription for but zyrtec is over the counter. Also for me with my allergies it could take 2 weeks to get the medicine to work fully in my system sometimes not.

Vemma Next has helped with many allergies. It is formulated for ages 2 to 12. There is no risk, as you can get your money back if it doesn't help. When ordered, it is shipped from warehouse to your front door.
http://annnoble.vemma.com I have had no allergy problems for four years now, since drinking vemma. Vemma Next tastes like a dream cycle. Moms don't have problems getting children to take it. They ask for it. .
